East Delhi is a special area, or administrative district, within Delhi, a large city in India. It's located on the eastern side of Delhi.
This district has natural borders. The Yamuna River is on its west side. To the north, it shares a border with North East Delhi. On the east, it's next to the Ghaziabad District in the state of Uttar Pradesh. To the south, it borders the Gautam Buddha Nagar District, also in Uttar Pradesh.
East Delhi is divided into three smaller parts for easier management. These parts are called Gandhi Nagar, Preet Vihar, and Mayur Vihar.
In 2011, about 1,709,346 people lived in East Delhi. The area of the district is about 64 square kilometers. This means many people live close together, making it a very busy place!
The local government for this area is called the EDMC. They help manage services for the people living here.
