Edinburg is a small town in Penobscot County, Maine, United States. In 2020, about 134 people lived there. It is part of the bigger Bangor area. You can find Edinburg along Maine State Route 116, on the west side of the Penobscot River. It is located between the towns of Argyle and Howland.

History of Edinburg
Edinburg was likely named after the famous Scottish city, Edinburgh. An early settler named John Bennoch, who was from Scotland, probably chose the name. He built a road through the area in 1826.
The town officially became a town in 1835. By 1843, 52 people lived there, and 23 of them were children. By 1859, the population grew to 93. The number of people living in Edinburg has stayed around that size ever since.
A brave soldier named Corp. Asbury F. Haynes was born in Edinburg in 1842. He was part of the 17th Maine Regiment during the American Civil War. On April 6, 1865, he captured a Confederate battle flag at the Battle of Sayler's Creek in Virginia. This heroic act earned him the Medal of Honor, which is the highest military award in the United States. He lived until 1931 and is buried in Seattle, Washington.
