Who Has Represented Strathfield?
The Strathfield electoral district was created in 1988. For many years, elections in Strathfield were often very close. This meant it wasn't always clear which political party would win.
At first, the area usually voted for the Liberal Party. The first MP for Strathfield was Paul Zammit from the Liberal Party. He later also served a short time in the national parliament. Later, Zammit ran again, but as an independent, because he was concerned about airports and planes flying over the area.
After Zammit, Bruce MacCarthy from the Liberal Party won. However, he only served one term. Then came Paul Whelan from the Labor Party. He was an important minister in the government at the time. He became the Police Minister while representing Strathfield.
Since Paul Whelan, the seat has generally voted for the Labor Party. Virginia Judge from the Labor Party took over from Paul Whelan. She lost the seat in 2011 to the Liberal candidate, Charles Casuscelli. But then, in 2015, Jodi McKay from the Labor Party won the seat back from Charles Casuscelli.
