The electoral division of Pembroke is like a special area in Tasmania. It's one of 15 "seats" in the Tasmanian Legislative Council. This council is also known as the upper house of Tasmania's parliament.
Pembroke is located on the eastern side of Hobart, Tasmania's capital city. It's on the east side of the Derwent River. This area includes many suburbs. Some of these are Risdon Vale, Geilston Bay, Rose Bay, and Lindisfarne. Other suburbs are Warrane, Mornington, Bellerive, Howrah, and Tranmere.
A long time ago, this division was much bigger. It covered most of Tasmania's east coast. It stretched as far north as Bicheno and included the Tasman Peninsula.
The name "Pembroke" comes from a "county" in Tasmania. Early British settlers created this county. Both the division and the old county got their name from Pembrokeshire in Wales. Wales is a country that is part of the United Kingdom.
