Eren Derdiyok (born on June 12, 1988) is a former professional footballer from Switzerland. He played as a striker, which means he was mainly focused on scoring goals. Eren also played for the Swiss national team.
He played for many different clubs during his career, including teams in Europe and even one year in Uzbekistan.

Early Life and Start in Football
Eren Derdiyok was born in Basel, Switzerland. His family is Kurdish from Turkey, and he also has Turkish citizenship.
Playing for Old Boys Basel
Eren started playing football at a young age for a local club in Basel called BSC Old Boys Basel. He moved up through their youth teams. In 2005, he joined their main team, which played in the fourth division of Swiss football. He quickly became a key player, scoring 10 goals in just 18 games.
One exciting moment was when his team played against FC Basel in the Swiss Cup. Even though Old Boys lost, Eren scored their only goal.
Professional Club Career
Joining FC Basel
Eren's talent was noticed by FC Basel's coach, Christian Gross. In 2006, Eren joined FC Basel's under-21 team, where he scored 10 goals in 17 games. Soon after, he was called up to play for FC Basel's main team.
He made his first league appearance for Basel in February 2007. He scored his first league goal for the club in April 2007. Basel finished second in the league that season. They also won the Swiss Cup, with Eren starting in the final game.
The 2007–08 season was very successful for Eren and FC Basel. They won the Double, which means they won both the league championship and the Swiss Cup. Eren scored seven goals in 27 league games and even scored in the Cup final.
In the 2008–09 season, Basel played in the UEFA Champions League. Eren scored an important goal that helped Basel reach the group stage. He even scored against famous club Barcelona in a 1–1 draw.
Eren left FC Basel at the end of this season. He played 119 games for them and scored 43 goals in total.
Moving to Bayer Leverkusen

In May 2009, Eren joined Bayer Leverkusen, a big club in Germany. He signed a four-year contract. He scored a winning goal in his very first game for them in the German Cup.
He quickly became an important player for Leverkusen, especially when another striker was injured. His goals helped Bayer Leverkusen start the season very well. In his first season, he scored 12 goals in 33 league matches.
In his second season, he continued to score important goals, including two in the German Cup. In his third season, he scored a fantastic overhead kick goal against VfL Wolfsburg. He also scored a header against Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League, helping his team win 2–1. He even scored his first hat-trick for Leverkusen in a 3–3 draw against Hertha BSC.
Time at Hoffenheim
In May 2012, Eren signed with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, another German club. He scored in his first game for them. However, his time at Hoffenheim was difficult, and he struggled to score goals. He played less often and was even moved to the reserve team for a while.
Loan Return to Bayer Leverkusen
In August 2013, Eren went back to Bayer Leverkusen on a loan for one season. He hoped to play well again, but he didn't get much playing time. After the loan, he returned to Hoffenheim.
Playing in Turkey
After his time in Germany, Eren moved to Turkey to play for Kasımpaşa in 2014. He played there for two seasons and scored 15 goals in 40 games.
In August 2016, he signed a three-year contract with Galatasaray, one of Turkey's biggest clubs. He played for Galatasaray until 2019, scoring 20 goals in 63 league matches.
After Galatasaray, he played for Göztepe for a short time.
Playing in Uzbekistan and Final Clubs
In 2020, Eren moved to Uzbekistan to play for Pakhtakor Tashkent. He had a successful time there, winning the Uzbek league and cup.
He then returned to Turkey to play for Ankaragücü in 2021, where he helped them win the TFF First League.
His last club was Schaffhausen in Switzerland, which he joined in June 2023. On January 3, 2024, Eren Derdiyok announced that he was retiring from professional football. He will stay at FC Schaffhausen to help the coach and work on getting his own coaching license.
International Career
Eren Derdiyok made his first appearance for the Swiss national team on February 6, 2008, against England. He scored a goal with his very first touch of the ball!
He was chosen to be part of the Switzerland squad for UEFA Euro 2008. At 19 years old, he was the youngest player in the entire tournament. He also played for Switzerland in the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
On May 26, 2012, Eren scored his first ever international hat-trick (three goals in one game) when Switzerland beat Germany 5–3 in a friendly match.
He was also part of the Swiss team for UEFA Euro 2016.
