Essertes was a small town, or municipality, located in the Vaud area of Switzerland. It was part of the Lavaux-Oron region. On January 1, 2022, Essertes joined with another town called Oron. This means Essertes is now part of the larger Oron municipality.

Essertes has a long history! The first time it was written about was in the year 1154. Back then, it was called terram de Sartis. Later, in 1271, it was mentioned as de Essertes, which is closer to its modern name.

Essertes covers an area of about 1.7 square kilometers (0.65 square miles). A large part of this land, about 74.5%, is used for farming. Forests cover about 17% of the area. The remaining 9.1% is where buildings and roads are located.

Essertes used to be part of the Oron District. This district was changed on August 31, 2006. After that, Essertes became part of the new Lavaux-Oron district. The town is in the Jorat region, right next to the Canton of Fribourg. Essertes itself is a linear village, meaning it stretches out along the Vevey-Moudon road. It also includes two smaller areas called Bretonnaire and Les Clos.
