Châtillens was once a small municipality (a type of local government area) in Switzerland. It was located in the canton of Vaud, within the Lavaux-Oron area.
On January 1, 2012, Châtillens joined with several other nearby municipalities. These included Bussigny-sur-Oron, Chesalles-sur-Oron, Ecoteaux, Oron-la-Ville, Oron-le-Châtel, Palézieux, Les Tavernes, Les Thioleyres, and Vuibroye. Together, they formed a new, larger municipality called Oron.

History of Châtillens
Châtillens is quite old! It was first mentioned in official records way back in 1141. At that time, it was known by the name Castellens.
Geography and Nature
Châtillens covers an area of about 2.1 square kilometers (which is about 0.8 square miles). This information is from 2009.
Most of the land in Châtillens is used for farming. About 61% of the area is farmland. Forests cover a good portion too, making up about 27.5% of the land. The rest, about 9.5%, is where buildings and roads are located.
The municipality is located near the road that connects Lausanne and Bulle. It is also close to the Swiss Federal Railways train line that runs between Lausanne and Payerne. You can find bridges over the Broye and Grenet rivers within the area.
Châtillens's Coat of Arms
Every town has a special symbol, like a logo, called a coat of arms. Châtillens's coat of arms has a specific design.
It shows a green hill on a blue background. On top of the hill, there is a silver church. Above the church, there are two golden five-pointed stars.
People and Population
In 2010, Châtillens had a population of 492 people. About 19% of the people living there in 2008 were foreign nationals. Over ten years, from 1999 to 2009, the population grew by about 9.6%. This growth was mostly because more babies were born than people died.
Most people in Châtillens speak French. In 2000, about 92% of the population spoke French. German and Albanian were the next most common languages.
