Filippo Tortu is a super-fast Italian runner, also known as a sprinter! He was born on June 15, 1998, in Milan, Italy. He's famous for being the first Italian ever to run the 100-meter race in under 10 seconds. That's incredibly fast! His best time for the 100 meters is 9.99 seconds.
Filippo has won many important medals. He won a gold medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo as part of the Italian 4x100 meter relay team. He also helped his team win a gold medal at the 2024 European Athletics Championships and a silver medal at the 2023 World Athletics Championships. Individually, he has won silver and bronze medals in the 200-meter race at the European Championships. His father, Salvino Tortu, who was also a sprinter, is his coach.

Filippo's Journey in Athletics
Filippo was born in Milan. His dad, Salvino, was a runner from Sardinia, and his mom, Paola, was from Lombardy. When he was eight, Filippo started playing sports. He tried both track and field and basketball.
Early Running Days
In 2010 and 2011, Filippo was known as the fastest runner in Milan for his age group. He then decided to focus completely on track and field. His father became his coach. In 2013, he won the 80-meter race at the Italian championships.
In 2014, Filippo faced a challenge. He qualified for the 200-meter race at the Youth Olympics. But during a preliminary race, he fell at the finish line. He broke both of his arms and couldn't compete in the finals.
Breaking Records
Even after his injury, Filippo kept going! In 2015, he broke Italian youth records. He set new best times for the 100 meters (10.33 seconds) and the 200 meters (20.92 seconds).
In 2016, he broke another big record. He ran the 100 meters in 10.24 seconds. This was a new Italian junior record that had stood for 34 years! Later that year, he won his first Italian title in the 100 meters. He also won a silver medal in the 100 meters at the 2016 IAAF World U20 Championships.
Olympic Gold Medal
At the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo (which happened in 2021), Filippo ran in the 100-meter race. He made it to the semi-finals. But his biggest moment came in the 4x100 meter relay race. Filippo ran the final part of the race, called the "anchor leg." He ran incredibly fast, catching up to the British team and winning the gold medal for Italy by just one-hundredth of a second! It was a historic win for Italy.
Recent Achievements
Filippo continues to be a top sprinter. In 2022, he won a bronze medal in the 200 meters at the 2022 European Athletics Championships. In 2023, he helped the Italian 4x100 meter relay team win a silver medal at the 2023 World Athletics Championships. Most recently, in 2024, he won a silver medal in the 200 meters and a gold medal with the 4x100 meter relay team at the 2024 European Athletics Championships.

- 200 meters: 20.10 seconds (set in Eugene, USA, on July 19, 2022).

- 60 meters: 6.58 seconds (set in Ancona, Italy, on January 20, 2019).
