Floria Sigismondi (born 1965) is an Italian-Canadian director, writer, artist, and photographer. She is known for her unique and often dark visual style.
Floria has directed many music videos for famous artists like David Bowie, Björk, Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake, and Dua Lipa. She also directs movies and TV shows, including The Runaways and episodes of The Handmaid's Tale. She has also made commercials for big brands like Gucci and Nike.

Life and Career
Early Life and Education
Floria Sigismondi was born in Pescara, Italy. Her parents, Lina and Domenico, were opera singers. When she was two years old, her family moved to Hamilton, Canada. As a child, Floria loved drawing and painting.
In 1987, she started studying art at the Ontario College of Art, which is now called Ontario College of Art & Design University. She took a photography class and loved it so much that she decided to focus on photography for her degree.
Starting Her Career
After college, Floria began her career as a fashion photographer. Soon, a company called The Revolver Film Co. asked her to direct music videos. She started by directing videos for Canadian bands. Her creative and unique videos quickly caught the eye of many well-known musicians.
Art and Photography
Besides directing, Floria is also a talented artist and photographer. She has shown her photography and sculptures in art shows in cities like New York, London, and Toronto. Her photos have been displayed alongside works by other famous artists. Two books of her photography, Redemption (1999) and Immune (2005), have been published. Floria often creates her own props for her music videos, designing them with great detail.

Directing "The Runaways"
Floria Sigismondi's first full-length movie was The Runaways. This film tells the story of a real 1970s all-girl rock band called The Runaways. The movie mainly focuses on the friendship between two band members, Joan Jett and Cherie Currie. Floria wrote the movie's script based on Cherie Currie's book. The film was first shown at the Sundance Film Festival in 2010.
Directing "The Turning"
In 2020, Floria directed a horror movie called The Turning. This movie was inspired by an old story from 1898 called The Turn of the Screw. It stars actors like Mackenzie Davis and Finn Wolfhard.
