Galidor: Defenders of the Outer Dimension, often called Galidor, is a Canadian and American TV show. It first aired in 2002 on YTV in Canada and Fox Kids in the United States. The series had 26 episodes, each about 30 minutes long.

Thomas W. Lynch created the show. He also made other popular series like The Secret World of Alex Mack. The Lego Group helped fund and owned the show. Galidor was the last new show to launch on Fox Kids before the channel stopped airing new programs.

Story of Galidor: Saving a New Dimension

The show follows a 15-year-old boy named Nick Bluetooth. He and his best friend, Allegra Zane, find a special spaceship. This ship, nicknamed "the Egg," takes them to an "Outer Dimension." This new dimension is in danger from a villain named Gorm.

Nick and Allegra are now tasked with protecting this dimension. To defeat Gorm, Nick must find all the pieces of a special key. This key will open the gates to the kingdom of Galidor. Galidor is one of many lands in this Outer Dimension.

Main Characters in Galidor

  • Nicholas "Nick" Bluetooth (played by Matthew Ewald) – Nick is a 15-year-old hero. He has a unique power called "glinching." This means he can change his arms and legs into parts of other creatures or special machines. Nick is brave but sometimes acts without thinking. His last name, Bluetooth, comes from a famous Danish king.
  • Allegra Zane (played by Marie-Marguerite Sabongui) – Allegra is Nick's best friend. She is a skilled karate expert. Allegra is often calm and helps Nick think things through. At first, she wants to go home to Earth. But she soon decides to help the people of the Outer Dimension.
  • Jens (voiced by Michael O'Reilly) – Jens was once a plant-like creature called a Wexer. Gorm burned his body, so his mind was put into a robot body. He is the Chief Scientist of Galidor's Royal Court. Jens often seems worried and speaks in a high-pitched voice.
  • Euripides (voiced by Georges Morris) – Euripides is a large, frog-like creature called an Amphibib. He is the last of his kind. Euripides is a wise scholar and advises Nick. He can move things with his mind (telekinesis) using his staff. He can also create a little heat.
  • Nepol (voiced by Walter Massey) – Nepol is a blue-furred humanoid called a Siktari. Gorm made him smaller. He needs glasses because he can't see very well. Nepol carries an icy spear called a luka. He can run very fast and shoot ice or cold to freeze things.

Supporting Heroes

  • Samuel "The Stranger" Bluetooth (played by Randy Thomas) – Sam is Nick's father. He is an adventurer and a scientist. Sam built the Egg spaceship and explored the Outer Dimension before Nick. He even joined Galidor's council and married Queen Riana.
  • Queen Riana (played by Tara Leigh) – Riana is the Queen of Galidor and Nick's mother. She usually appears as a mental hologram that only Nick can see. She gives Nick mysterious advice and warnings.
  • Lind (played by Karen Cliche) – Lind is from Galidor. She can turn into a purple gel whenever she wants. Gorm trained her to be his chief advisor for the Outer Dimension.

Villains of Galidor

  • Gorm (voiced by Ian Finlay) – Gorm is the main bad guy. He used to be a top advisor in Galidor. But he turned against Sam and Queen Riana. After being banished, Gorm conquered many worlds. He destroyed species and made a virus for the Outer Dimension's maps. Gorm can also "glinch" like Nick, but his power is stronger with a device on his chest. He is very strong, can move things with his mind, and create fake images.
  • Bala (played by Sean Devine) – Bala is a cyborg bounty hunter who works for Gorm. He is a Herpitoid. Bala attacks with an energy bolt that turns into a claw when it hits something.
  • Tager – Tager is Gorm's main advisor. He encouraged Gorm to conquer new worlds.
  • Caliphonic – Caliphonic leads the Aquart race, who are lizard-like creatures. He is an ally of Gorm.

Galidor Toys and Video Games

The Lego Group made a toy line based on Galidor in 2002. These toys were action figures with parts you could swap. They were a bit like Lego's popular Bionicle toys. However, the Galidor toys were not very successful. Many people thought the parts were too specialized and didn't work well with other Lego sets.

Lego designers were also disappointed with the TV show. They had hoped Galidor would be as popular as Bionicle or Lego Star Wars. Some even thought Galidor failed because it competed with Bionicle, which was very popular at the time. Only 15 Galidor sets were released, and some were even cancelled. The special molds for Galidor toys cost Lego a lot of money.

Despite these problems, Galidor did bring some new ideas to Lego. For example, the electronic Kek Powerizer figure could interact with the TV show. It had spoken lines and mini-games. Also, a new type of joint, first used in Galidor, was later used in Bionicle and Lego Exo Force. This new joint helped Galidor parts connect better with other Lego sets.

Galidor and other less successful projects led to Lego almost going bankrupt in the early 2000s. A Lego designer named Mark Stafford believed Galidor was a big reason for these money problems. Today, some Lego fans enjoy Galidor for fun or nostalgia. A Lego designer even included a nod to Galidor in the 2017 Ninjago City set.
