Gaven /ˈɡeɪvən/ is a quiet area in the City of Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. It's a place where people live in a more spread-out, country-like setting, even though it's close to the city. In 2021, about 1,638 people called Gaven home.
Where is Gaven?
Gaven is located just north of a town called Nerang. A big road, the Pacific Motorway, runs along its eastern side. This makes it easy to travel to and from Gaven.
How Gaven Got Its Name
Gaven was named after a man named Eric Gaven. He was an important person in local government. From 1935 to 1949, he was a councillor for the Nerang Shire Council. Then, in 1949-1950, he became the chairman of the new Albert Shire Council.
Eric Gaven also became a politician for the state of Queensland. He was elected to represent the area of Southport in 1950. He held this position for ten years. Later, he represented the South Coast until 1966.
A school called Gaven State School opened in 1995. However, this school is now located within the boundaries of the nearby area, Oxenford.
