Studio Village Neighbourhood

In the south of Oxenford, there is a neighbourhood called Studio Village. This area is special because it is very close to two big theme parks: Wet'n'Wild Water World and Warner Bros. Movie World. The name "Studio Village" was inspired by Movie World itself. Many of the street names in this neighbourhood are linked to Hollywood and movies.

A Look Back at Oxenford's History

Oxenford got its name from an old railway station. The station was named after William Robert Oxenford. He bought a large piece of land in the Coomera area in 1869. He also worked for many years on the local council.

An old railway line, called the South Coast railway line, opened in 1889. Oxenford had a station on this line, which was first called "39 Mile Platform." This was because it was 39 miles from the main station in South Brisbane. This railway station was used until 1964, when the line closed down.

When a new railway line, the Gold Coast railway line, was built in 1996, it did not go through Oxenford. Instead, it went through Helensvale, which is to the east. So, Helensvale railway station is now the closest train station to Oxenford. Interestingly, the Pacific Motorway follows a similar path to the old railway line.

Over the years, new schools opened in the area. Oxenford State School welcomed its first students on 27 January 1987. Gaven State School opened a few years later, on 27 January 1995.
