History of Grant-Valkaria
The area known as Grant started in 1925. It was a fishing village, and farming was also important in both Grant and Valkaria.
The name Valkaria comes from the word "Valkyrie." These were strong warrior-maidens in old Norse mythology.
In the early 1960s, the US Air Force built a special system here called MISTRAM. It was used to track missiles.
Grant-Valkaria became an official town on July 25, 2006. This happened when the two smaller communities of Grant and Valkaria joined together. The main ZIP code for the town is 32949, but parts of 32950 and 32909 are also in the town. The area code for phones here is 321.

The town is south of Melbourne. It is located between the cities of Palm Bay and Sebastian.

Culture and Community
Grant-Valkaria is mostly a rural town in the southern part of the county. You can find older homes and newer homes on large lots. The town also has the county-owned Habitat Golf Course, which is a large 6,836-yard, par-72 course near the Valkaria Airport.
The town is famous for its Grant Seafood Festival. This festival has been held every year since 1966, usually on the last weekend of February. The money raised from the festival helps pay for college scholarships for local students. It also supports summer activities for children in the community.
Grant-Valkaria is home to two important historic buildings: the Bensen House and Jorgensen's General Store.
