Famous People

Alice Perrers

(Main article: Alice Perrers) Alice Perrers lived a long time ago, from about 1348 to 1400 or 1401. She was a very important woman in England. Some stories say she was from Henny and her father was a thatcher. Other stories say she was from different places. We don't have her birth record, so her early life is a bit of a mystery.

Alice became a close companion of King Edward III. She was about 18 and the King was 55. Because the King supported her, she became one of the richest and most powerful women in the country. She was sometimes criticized for using her influence with the aging King. Alice Perrers passed away in the winter of 1400 or 1401. She was around 52 years old. She was buried in the Church of St Laurence in Upminster.
