Greeley County is a county in the U.S. state of Nebraska. In the 2020 Census, about 2,188 people lived there. Its main town, or county seat, is Greeley Center. This town is also known simply as Greeley.
When Nebraska started its license plate system in 1922, Greeley County was given the number 62. This was because it had the 62nd largest number of vehicles registered at that time.

A Look Back in Time
Greeley County was officially created in 1871 and started operating in 1872. It was named after Horace Greeley. He was a famous newspaper editor and politician in the mid-1800s. Horace Greeley encouraged people to move west with his famous saying, "Go West, young man."

Two rivers flow through Greeley County. The Cedar River goes through the northeast part. The North Loup River flows through the southwest part.
