Green Lantern: The Animated Series is an American animated superhero TV show. It is based on the DC Comics superhero called Green Lantern. The show was shown on Cartoon Network as part of their "DC Nation" block.

A special preview of the show aired on November 11, 2011. The series then ran from March 17, 2012, to March 16, 2013. This was the first TV show about Green Lantern. It was also the first DC/Warner Bros. show made using CGI (computer animation). The series ended after one season. This was because toy sales were not good. The live-action Green Lantern movie had also not done well.

What is the Story About?

The series follows the exciting adventures of Hal Jordan. He is the Green Lantern for Sector 2814. His partner is Kilowog. Hal takes a spaceship controlled by Aya, an AI. He and Kilowog travel to "Frontier Space." This is the very edge of the Guardians of the Universe' territory. Green Lanterns are being attacked there by the Red Lanterns.

Atrocitus, the Red Lantern leader, wants revenge. His world was destroyed by the Manhunters. The Guardians created the Manhunters. During their journey, Hal and Kilowog meet a Red Lantern named Razer. They first take him prisoner. But he later helps them defeat Atrocitus. Razer then joins their team. He also starts to have feelings for Aya.

At the end of the first season, Hal finds out that Aya is a living being. She was not just a robot. He tries to stop her from destroying all life in the universe. Razer gets badly hurt trying to stop Aya. Hal finally convinces Aya that she is wrong. She saves the universe and heals Razer. But Aya had created a new army of Manhunters. She also put a copy of herself into every Manhunter. The only way to stop them is a computer virus. This virus would also destroy Aya. Aya launches the virus, stopping the Manhunters. She also destroys herself after saying goodbye to Razer.

Back on Oa, Razer does not believe Aya is truly gone. He starts searching the galaxy for her. A Blue Lantern ring follows Razer. It is not clear if he will get it.

How the Show Was Made

The show was first thought of as a "Bruce Timm-does-CG-project." Bruce Timm is a famous producer of animated shows. He was in charge of this show. He was not sure about using CGI instead of traditional animation at first. But he later agreed.

A total of 26 episodes were ordered for the first season. The show was not meant to tell the Green Lantern origin story. This was because Warner Bros. had already released a movie about it. This series was the first TV show produced by Bruce Timm using CGI. It was also the first time Green Lantern was shown in CGI.
