Jacob Harry Maguire (born 5 March 1993) is an English professional footballer. He plays as a centre-back for the club Manchester United. Harry also plays for the England national team. Many people think he is one of the best English defenders of his time.
Maguire started his football journey in the youth system at Sheffield United. He joined their main team in 2011. He played 166 games for Sheffield United. He was even named their "Player of the Year" three times in a row. In 2014, he moved to Hull City. He was also loaned to Wigan Athletic in 2015.
In 2017, Harry joined Leicester City. He played every minute of the 2017–18 season and was named their "Player of the Season". In 2019, Maguire moved to Manchester United. This move cost about £80 million, which was a world record for a defender at the time. Within six months, he became the team's club captain. He held this role until 2023.
Harry played one game for the England under-21 team in 2012. He joined the senior England team in 2017. He played in the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups. He also played in UEFA Euro 2020. He was even chosen for the "Team of the Tournament" at Euro 2020.

Early Life and Family
Jacob Harry Maguire was born on 5 March 1993. His birthplace was Sheffield, England. He grew up in a nearby village called Mosborough. Harry has two brothers, Joe and Laurence. Both of his brothers are also footballers.

Starting at Sheffield United
First Team and Early Success (2011–2012)

Harry Maguire came through the youth system at Sheffield United. He joined the first team in April 2011. In his first game, he was named "Man of the Match". He played four more games that season. However, the club was relegated to League One.
He scored his first goal for United in a 2–0 win against Oldham Athletic. This was on the first day of the 2011–12 League One season. Harry played in every game from the start of the season. He signed a new contract to stay at the club until 2015. At the end of the season, he was named "Player of the Year". He also won "Young Player of the Year" for the club. He was even chosen for the PFA Team of the Year for League One.
Continued Strong Play (2012–2014)
Maguire continued to be a key player in defence. He scored two goals in a 4–1 win against Notts County in October 2012. By February 2013, Harry had played his 100th game for United. He was only 19 years old at the time. His great performances in the 2012–13 and 2013–14 seasons earned him a spot in the PFA Team of the Year again.
In June 2014, Sheffield United offered Maguire a better contract. This was because other clubs like Hull City and Wolverhampton Wanderers were interested in him.
Moving to Hull City
Joining the Tigers (2014–2016)

On 29 July 2014, Maguire joined Hull City. The deal was worth £2.5 million. He signed a three-year contract. He played his first game for Hull on 21 August. This was in a UEFA Europa League match against Lokeren. He made his Premier League debut in December.
After playing only six games for Hull, Maguire joined Wigan Athletic. This was a one-month loan deal in February 2015. He scored his first goal for Wigan on 28 February. He played many games during his loan. So, his stay at Wigan was extended until the end of the season.
Returning and Reaching the Premier League (2016–2017)
While Maguire was on loan, Hull City was relegated. But on 28 May 2016, they won promotion back to the Premier League. They beat Sheffield Wednesday 1–0 in a play-off final at Wembley Stadium.
In the 2016–17 season, Maguire became a regular player for Hull. He scored his first goal for Hull on 25 October 2016. This was in an EFL Cup match against Bristol City. He also scored his first Premier League goal in April 2017. Even though Hull was relegated that season, fans and players voted him "Hull's Player of the Year".
Time at Leicester City
On 15 June 2017, Maguire signed with Leicester City. The fee was £12 million. He played his first game on 11 August. Eight days later, he scored his first goal for Leicester. He played every minute of the 2017–18 season. He was named "Player of the Season" by the club and the players.
There were talks about him moving to Manchester United. But Leicester's manager, Claude Puel, said Maguire would stay.

Becoming Club Captain (2019–2020)
In July 2019, Manchester United offered £70 million for Maguire. Leicester accepted an improved offer of £80 million on 2 August. This made Maguire the world's most expensive defender. The transfer was completed on 5 August. He signed a six-year contract. He played his first game for United on 11 August. He was named "Man of the Match".
On 17 January 2020, Maguire was named club captain by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær. He scored his first goal for United on 26 January. This was in an FA Cup win against Tranmere Rovers. The match ended in a 2–1 loss for United. After this loss, some teammates received racist threats. Maguire joined others in speaking out against this abuse.
He played the full 90 minutes in United's 9–0 win against Southampton. On 25 April, he played his 71st straight Premier League game without being substituted. This equalled a club record. However, he got an ankle injury on 9 May. He had to leave the game. Because of this injury, Maguire missed the 2021 Europa League final. United lost the final on penalties.
Challenges and EFL Cup Win (2021–2023)
On 20 October 2021, Maguire scored his first Champions League goal. This was in a 3–2 win over Atalanta. On 20 February 2022, he scored his only Premier League goal of the season. This was in a 4–2 win over Leeds United. Maguire faced some tough times this season. Manchester United finished sixth, and many people criticized his performances.
In the 2022–23 season, Maguire started only eight Premier League games. The new manager, Erik ten Hag, often chose other defenders. On 26 February, Maguire won his first trophy with Manchester United. They beat Newcastle United 2–0 in the 2023 EFL Cup final at Wembley Stadium. Strong Comeback (2023–Present)
