Hartford City, often just called Hartford, is a small town in Mason County, West Virginia, United States. In 2020, about 509 people lived there. It is part of the wider Point Pleasant area.

A Look Back: Hartford City's History
Hartford City is built on land that once belonged to Colonel Andrew Waggener. In 1772, he received 4,000 acres (about 16 square kilometers) from King George III. This was a reward for his help in the French and Indian War.
The town officially started in 1853. That same year, a coal mine opened. In 1856, people from Connecticut named Morgan Buckley and William Healey began to extract salt here. They named the town Hartford after Hartford, the capital city of Connecticut.
The first post office in Hartford City opened in 1858. The community officially became an incorporated town in 1868.
