Hayfield's History
The U.S. Post Office in Hayfield started operating in 1885. Hayfield officially became a city in 1896. Before that, the area was part of Vernon Township, which was set up in 1872. The name "Hayfield" came from a similar township in Pennsylvania.
Hayfield used to have a station for the Chicago Great Western Railroad. Also, the Vernon Co-operative Creamery near Hayfield was one of the oldest farmer-owned creameries in Minnesota.
