Hollowell is a small village in West Northamptonshire, England. It is also a civil parish, which is a local government area. In 2011, about 385 people lived in Hollowell, including the nearby small area of Teeton.
Hollowell was once part of a larger village called Guilsborough. It became its own separate parish in 1850. The village is even mentioned in the Domesday Book from 1086. This old book shows that Hollowell belonged to the Bishop of Lincoln a very long time ago.

Where is Hollowell?
Hollowell is located about 9 miles (14 km) north-west of the town of Northampton. You can find it just off a side road, west of the village of Creaton. It's near the A5199 road, which used to be called the A50.
About 5 miles (8 km) north of Hollowell, the A5199 connects to the A14 road. This major road links to other important motorways like the M1 and M6 motorway. It also connects to towns like Kettering and Cambridge.
Cool Places to Visit
Hollowell Reservoir
Just north of the village is the Hollowell Reservoir. This is a large lake, covering about 140 acres. It's a popular spot for different activities.
You can find a sailing club here, where people enjoy sailing boats on the water. It's also a great place for fishing. In 2004, some really big fish called tench were caught here, with one weighing over 11 pounds!
Highfield Park (Old Hospital)
Within the village area, there used to be a hospital called the Northampton County Sanatorium. People also knew it as Creaton Hospital. This hospital treated people with tuberculosis between 1910 and 1979.
In the 1980s, the hospital building was changed into 13 private houses. Today, this area is known as Highfield Park.
Village History and Events
The Name of Hollowell
The name 'Hollowell' tells us something about the village's location. It means 'hollow spring' or 'hollow stream'. This makes sense because the village is at the bottom of a valley.
Winter Challenges
Being in a valley meant that Hollowell's roads could get very icy and snowy. This was especially true before councils started gritting roads regularly. In the winter of 1947, Hollowell and Guilsborough were cut off for several weeks. A man named Mr. J Smith delivered bread to the villagers on horseback during this tough time!
Hollowell Steam and Heavy Horse Show
Every year, usually on the first full weekend of July, Hollowell hosts a special event. It's called the Hollowell Steam and Heavy Horse Show. This show features amazing steam engines and powerful heavy horses.
The event first started in 1986 to help raise money for repairs to the village church roof. Now, it's one of the biggest steam rallies in the whole country! In 2007, about 45 steam engines were expected to be there. The show also raises a lot of money for local charities and groups. In 2004, it raised over £75,000! Allen Eaton, who has an MBE award, helps run this big event.
