A Glimpse into Huddinge's History
The history of Huddinge is very old, going back at least 1,000 years. This was even before the Viking Age! Long ago, if enemy ships came close, people in Huddinge would light beacons (big fires) on high places. These beacons were part of a warning system all around Lake Mälaren. Huddinge's coat of arms (its official symbol) comes from this old tradition. The name Huddinge might come from the "Uddung's," who were the first people to live here during the Iron Age near Lake Mälaren.

The number of people living in Huddinge is growing fast. Since the 1960s, the population has doubled! It is now one of the 14 largest municipalities in Sweden.
