Plot
The story of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom begins in 1934. Indiana Jones is in Shanghai, China. He meets a gangster named Lao Che. Lao Che wants the ashes of an old emperor, Nurachi. In return, he promises Jones a rare diamond. They make the trade. However, Lao Che has put poison in Jones's drink! He offers Jones the antidote only if Jones gives him the diamond back.
A big fight starts. One of Lao Che's sons is killed. A singer named Willie Scott quickly grabs the antidote. Jones and Scott jump out a window. They are driven by Jones's young sidekick, Short Round, through Shanghai. They then get on a plane. They do not know that the plane belongs to Lao Che.
Lao Che orders his pilots to parachute out of the plane. He hopes this will kill Jones and his friends. But Jones uses a life boat and lands safely. They arrive in a small village in India. The village leader tells them that a group of bad men took their special Sankara Stone. These men also kidnapped all their children. He asks Jones, Willie, and Short Round to help find the stone and the kids. Jones agrees, and the three travel by elephant.
They spend the night at Pankot Palace. While there, a very strong man tries to kill Jones. Jones finds a secret door. It leads to a huge underground temple beneath the palace. This temple is run by the Thuggee people. The Thuggees see them and capture them.
Jones meets Mola Ram, the leader of the Thuggees. Mola Ram is the one who kidnapped the children and stole the stone. He has forced the kids to work in a mine. They are looking for more of the special stones. Mola Ram makes Jones drink the blood of Kali. This blood puts Jones under a powerful spell. It makes him do bad things. Ram then shows Jones that Willie Scott has also been captured. Jones, under the spell, puts Willie in a cage. He starts to lower her down into a pit of hot lava.
Short Round, who was working in the mines, manages to get free. He takes a torch and burns Jones. This helps Jones snap out of the spell. Jones quickly saves Willie. He grabs the stones and tries to escape.
He frees the children from their chains. However, another strong man, the Thuggee leader, starts to fight Jones. Jones is winning the fight. But suddenly, he feels a lot of pain. Short Round tries to help, but it is not enough. He looks up and sees that the king is using a voodoo doll to hurt Jones. Short Round quickly climbs up and burns the king. This saves Jones just in time. The three heroes jump into a mine cart to escape. A long chase follows, and they barely get away.
Mola Ram traps them over a bridge. Jones signals to his friends to hold on tight. Then he cuts the rope of the bridge. Most of the Thuggees fall into the river below and are eaten by crocodiles. The rest of the people hang onto the bridge, which hits a cliff. Willie and Short Round easily climb up to safety. Ram and Jones fight. The fight ends when Jones says a special chant. This makes the stones become very hot. Ram grabs one, gets burned, and falls to his death below.
A group of Indian riflemen then arrive. They shoot at the remaining Thuggees, making them run away. Jones brings the stone and all the kidnapped children back to their village.
