Ivins Mountain is a tall mountain located in Zion National Park, in southwest Utah, United States. It stands 7,019 feet (2,139 meters) high. This mountain is made of a type of rock called Navajo Sandstone.
Discovering Ivins Mountain: Location and Naming
Ivins Mountain is about 7.5 miles (12 km) north of Springdale, Utah. Another tall peak, Inclined Temple, is close by to the south. South Guardian Angel is about three miles to the west.
The mountain got its official name in 1935. It was named by the United States Board on Geographic Names. This group is in charge of naming places in the U.S.
The mountain was named after Anthony W. Ivins (1852–1934). He was an important person in southern Utah. He was also a leader in the Mormon Church. A town in Utah, Ivins, Utah, is also named after him.
The first time someone climbed to the top of Ivins Mountain was in April 2015. Dan Stih and Matthew Mower made this first climb. They went up the mountain's west side. Water from the mountain flows into North Creek. This creek then joins the Virgin River.
Climate Around Ivins Mountain
The best times to visit Ivins Mountain are spring and fall. The weather is usually very pleasant then.
The area has a Cold semi-arid climate. This means it's a desert climate. The coldest month has an average temperature below 32 °F (0 °C). Also, more than half of the yearly rain falls in spring and summer.
This desert area gets less than 10 inches (250 mm) of rain each year. Snowfall is usually light during the winter months.
