Jamin Davis (/mɪn/ JAY-men; born December 12, 1998) is an American professional football player. He plays as a linebacker for the New York Jets in the National Football League (NFL). Davis played college football for the Kentucky Wildcats. He was chosen by the Washington Football Team in the first round of the 2021 NFL draft.

Early Life and High School Football

Jamin Davis was born on December 12, 1998, in Honolulu, Hawaii. His parents were in the U.S. Army. When he was one year old, his family moved to Hinesville, Georgia.

Davis went to Long County High School in Ludowici, Georgia. He played both linebacker and wide receiver for his high school football team. In his junior year, he made 131 tackles. As a senior, he made 126 more tackles and also caught three touchdowns.

College Football Career

Davis decided to play college football for the Kentucky Wildcats. He was considered a good player coming out of high school.

In 2017, he was a redshirt freshman. This means he practiced with the team but did not play in games. In 2018, he mostly played on special teams, which are units used for kicking plays. He also got one interception as a backup player.

In 2019, Davis made 32 tackles. He became a starter for the 2020 season. That year, he led his team with 102 tackles. He also had 1.5 sacks, which is when a player tackles the opposing quarterback. He also caused one fumble, recovered another fumble, and made three interceptions. One of his interceptions was returned 85 yards for a touchdown!

Professional Football Journey

Davis was picked by the Washington Football Team in the first round of the 2021 NFL draft. He was the 19th player chosen overall. He signed a four-year contract with the team on May 13, 2021.

Playing for Washington

Davis became the starting middle linebacker for Washington. In a game against the Philadelphia Eagles, he recovered a fumble. This helped his team get a field goal and win the game. He finished the 2022 season leading his team with 104 tackles. He also had two fumble recoveries and three sacks.

In 2024, the Commanders decided not to extend his contract for a fifth year. Davis then moved to play defensive end, a different position on the defensive line. He played in five games and made 12 tackles before being released by the team on October 22, 2024.

Moving to Other Teams

After leaving Washington, Davis joined the Green Bay Packers practice squad on October 29, 2024. A practice squad is a group of players who train with the team but are not on the main roster.

On November 26, 2024, Davis signed with the Minnesota Vikings. He was released by the Vikings on December 28, 2024.

Just a few days later, on December 31, 2024, the New York Jets picked him up. This is called being "claimed off waivers." It means a team can sign a player who has been released by another team. Davis re-signed with the Jets on March 19, 2025, for another year.

Personal Life

When Jamin Davis was a child, his nickname was "Shadow." This name came from the character Shadow in the Sonic the Hedgehog video games. He got the nickname from a friend who was called "Sonic."
