Jamin Davis (/mɪn/ JAY-men; born December 12, 1998) is an American professional football player. He plays as a linebacker for the New York Jets in the National Football League (NFL). Before joining the Jets, Jamin played college football for the Kentucky Wildcats. He was chosen by the Washington Football Team in the first round of the 2021 NFL draft.

Growing Up

Jamin Davis was born on December 12, 1998, in Honolulu, Hawaii. His parents were both in the U.S. Army. When he was about one year old, his family moved to Hinesville, Georgia. Jamin went to Long County High School in Ludowici, Georgia. In high school, he played both linebacker and wide receiver on the football team. He was a great player, making 131 tackles in his junior year and 126 tackles in his senior year. He also caught three touchdowns!

College Football Journey

Jamin was considered a promising player and decided to play college football for the Kentucky Wildcats. In 2017, he was a "redshirt" freshman. This means he practiced with the team but didn't play in games, which allowed him to gain an extra year of eligibility later.

In 2018, he mostly played on special teams, which are units used for plays like kickoffs and punts. He also got one interception as a backup player. In 2019, he made 32 tackles. Then, in 2020, he became a starter for the team. That year, he led the team with 102 tackles. He also had 1.5 sacks, which is when a player tackles the opposing quarterback behind the line of scrimmage. Jamin also forced one fumble, recovered another, and made three interceptions. One of his interceptions was amazing: he ran it back 85 yards for a touchdown!

Professional Football Career

Washington Football Team / Commanders

Jamin Davis was picked by the Washington Football Team in the first round of the 2021 NFL draft. He was the 19th player chosen overall. He signed his first professional contract on May 13, 2021.

In a game against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 10, Jamin became the starting middle linebacker. He recovered a fumble in that game, which helped his team get into position to kick a field goal and win. In 2023, he finished the season with a team-leading 104 tackles, two fumble recoveries, and three sacks.

In April 2024, the Commanders decided not to extend his contract for a fifth year. He then moved to play as a defensive end for a short time before being released in October 2024. He played in five games and made 12 tackles.

Green Bay Packers

On October 29, 2024, Jamin was signed to the practice squad of the Green Bay Packers. A practice squad is a group of players who train with the team but are not on the main roster for games.

Minnesota Vikings

Jamin then signed with the Minnesota Vikings on November 26, 2024. He was released from the team on December 28.

New York Jets

On December 31, 2024, Jamin Davis was picked up by the New York Jets. This means the Jets claimed him from the list of available players.

About Jamin Davis
