Jason Nicholas Doig, born on January 29, 1977, is a former professional ice hockey player from Canada. He played as a defenceman in the National Hockey League (NHL) for teams like the Winnipeg Jets, Phoenix Coyotes, New York Rangers, and Washington Capitals.

Early Life and Growing Up
Jason Doig was born in Montreal, Quebec. His parents, Michael and Paula Doig, moved to Canada from Jamaica before he was born. They both went to university in Canada, with his mom studying at Concordia University and his dad at McGill University.
Jason grew up in Dollard-des-Ormeaux, a town near Montreal. He went to St. Charles Elementary School, West Island College for high school, and Vanier College. Besides hockey, Jason was also a very good soccer player. He played for the West Island Lakers soccer club and was even asked to play for Team Quebec.
When he was young, Jason played in the 1991 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with his North Shore team.
Jason Doig's Hockey Journey
Starting in Junior Hockey
Jason Doig showed great talent in his early hockey days. He played for the North Shore hockey team and then for the Lac St-Louis Lions. In 1993-94, he started playing in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) with the St-Jean Lynx.
That same year, Jason helped Team Quebec win a gold medal at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. He scored both the tying goal and the winning goal in the final game against Team USA. The next year, he played for Team Canada at the World Under-18 Tournament in Mexico City and won another gold medal.
In 1995, the Winnipeg Jets picked him 34th overall in the NHL Entry Draft. This was after he scored 55 points and had 259 penalty minutes with the Laval Titan's in the QMJHL. He also played in the Canadian Hockey League all-star game.
Winning Championships
In 1996, Jason went back to the QMJHL and led the Granby Predateurs to win the President's Cup. He was named the playoff MVP, winning the Guy Lafleur Trophy. His team then went on to win the Memorial Cup Championship, and Jason was named a first-team all-star. That year, he was also the team captain for the West Team at the QMJHL all-star game.
The next year, Jason was part of Team Canada when they won the gold medal at the World Junior Ice Hockey Championships in Switzerland.
Playing in the NHL
Jason Doig played for the Winnipeg Jets as an 18-year-old in the 1995-96 season. He stayed with the team when it moved to Arizona in 1996-97 and became the Phoenix Coyotes.
In March 1999, he was traded to the New York Rangers. While with the Rangers, he also played for their minor league team, the Hartford Wolf Pack, in the American Hockey League (AHL). He helped the Wolf Pack win the Calder Cup in 2000. Jason played two seasons in the New York Rangers organization before being traded to the Ottawa Senators. He played one season with their AHL team, the Grand Rapids Griffins.
In 2002-03, Jason Doig joined the Washington Capitals. He became a strong defenceman for the team, though he also spent some time with their AHL team, the Portland Pirates.
After a season away from hockey due to the NHL lockout, Jason signed with the Vancouver Canucks in 2005. He played for their AHL team, the Manitoba Moose.
Playing Overseas and Retirement
In the 2006–2007 season, Jason played for Traktor Chelyabinsk in the Russian Superleague. He finished that season playing in Switzerland for the Langnau SCL Tigers. In the same year, he played for Team Canada again at the Spengler Cup in Davos, Switzerland, where they won a silver medal.
In the 2007–2008 season, he played in Switzerland with EHC Basel. He then signed a contract to play for the Stavanger Oilers in Norway's top league. After his team was out of the playoffs, Jason Doig announced that he was retiring from hockey.
Life After Hockey
Since retiring in 2007, Jason Doig has worked in finance. He was a principal at Park Lane, an investment bank in Los Angeles, where he focused on the hockey business. While there, he started TreeVestors, a company that invests in projects related to carbon forestry, which helps the environment.
Currently, Jason Doig works as a Regional Sales Coordinator for Aflac, a large company that provides supplemental employee benefits. He lives in Los Angeles with his three children.
