Jolene Marie Cholock-Rotinsulu (born May 15, 1996) is an Indonesian-American beauty queen and disability rights activist. She won the title of Puteri Indonesia Lingkungan 2019 (which means Miss International Indonesia 2019).

She represented Indonesia at the Miss International 2019 pageant in Tokyo, Japan. There, she placed in the Top 8. This continued Indonesia's streak of placing in the top ranks for four years in a row.

Her Early Life and Education

Rotinsulu worked as an official committee in 2018 Asian Para Games and received a Satyalancana Kebhaktian Sosial ("Social Welfare Medal") from the president Joko Widodo.

Jolene Rotinsulu was born in Santa Ana, California, USA. Her father, Roy Guustaf Rotinsulu, is from North Sulawesi, Indonesia. Her mother, Allery Lee Cholock, is from Los Angeles, California. Jolene's older sister, Sirena Elizabeth Cholock-Rotinsulu, also won Miss Celebrity Indonesia in 2011.

Jolene has a college degree from Academy of Art University. She also studied at Institut Agama Kristen Negeri (IAKN) Manado in Indonesia.

Her Career Journey

Jolene started working as a commercial model when she was 10 years old. She appeared in several music videos as a model and even sang in some. She began her acting career in 2016 in the movie I AM HOPE. This movie was made to honor cancer survivors.

Jolene also has a certificate in outdoor recreation. She is an Indonesian national equestrian athlete, specializing in dressage. Since 2017, Jolene has been an official member of the Asian Paralympic Committee. She helped prepare for the 2018 Asian Para Games. She received a special award called the "Social Welfare Medal" from the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, for her work.

Jolene Rotinsulu is a strong supporter of rights for the elderly and people with disabilities. She even built her own care home called "Saya Bisa" in her hometown of Manado. This home helps elderly people with disabilities. She also started a project called "1001 wheelchairs" to provide wheelchairs and other support.

She also helps develop skills for the elderly through a project called "Du’Anyam". This project helps mothers and fathers earn money by teaching them traditional "weaving" skills.

Jolene works with the Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia. Together, they built a local non-profit group called "Rumah Karya Sahabat Anak Grogol". This is a school that offers free education to homeless and street children in Grogol District, Jakarta.

She also helps children in remote areas. She built the "Nisnde Papua Foundation" in Nduga Regency, Papua Province. This foundation provides regular medical check-ups, vaccinations, and education in many subjects and technologies.

Jolene first entered the world of beauty pageants in 2010 when she was 14. She joined the Miss Celebrity Indonesia 2010 contest. She represented the city of Manado in North Sulawesi. The final event was held in Jakarta. Jolene won 1st runner-up and also received a special award called Miss Photogenic.

Puteri Indonesia 2019

Jolene was crowned Puteri Indonesia Lingkungan 2019 (Miss International Indonesia 2019). The big final event took place at the Jakarta Convention Center on March 8, 2019. The previous winner, Vania Fitryanti Herlambang, crowned her. Jolene represented North Sulawesi province and also won a special award as Puteri Indonesia of Sulawesi Islands.

The reigning Miss International 2018, Mariem Claret Velazco García from Venezuela, was a special guest at the Puteri Indonesia 2019 final. Miss International 2017, Kevin Lilliana Junaedy from Indonesia, was also part of the judging team. During her speech at the Puteri Indonesia 2019 final, Jolene spoke about how society often has fixed ideas about beauty.

While she was Puteri Indonesia Lingkungan 2019, Jolene was a speaker at the United Nations Environment Programme – Global Landscapes Forum in New York City, United States on September 28, 2019.

Miss International 2019

After winning Puteri Indonesia Lingkungan 2019, Jolene Cholock-Rotinsulu represented Indonesia at the 59th Miss International 2019 beauty pageant. This event was held in Tokyo, Japan, on November 12, 2019. She made it to the Top 8 finalists. Sireethorn Leearamwat from Thailand was crowned the new Miss International.
