Jordan Lee Pickford (born 7 March 1994) is an English professional footballer. He plays as a goalkeeper for Everton and the England national team.
Pickford started his career at Sunderland. He played for their youth teams and senior squad. He also spent time on loan at several other clubs. In June 2017, he joined Everton for a fee of £30 million.
Pickford has played for England at many youth levels, from under-16 to under-21. He made his debut for the senior England team in November 2017. He was the main goalkeeper when England finished fourth in the 2018 FIFA World Cup. This was England's first semi-final appearance since 1990. He also played in the UEFA Euro 2020 final, where England finished as runners-up. This was their first Euro final and first major tournament final since 1966. Pickford also started as England's first-choice goalkeeper in the final of UEFA Euro 2024.

Early Life and Family
Jordan Lee Pickford was born on 7 March 1994. His birth name was Jordan Lee Logan. He was born in Washington, England. He went to St Robert of Newminster Catholic School. Growing up, he supported his local team, Sunderland.
Pickford started dating Megan Davison when they were in secondary school. They got married in March 2020. They have a son, born in 2019, and a daughter, born in September 2023.
Club Career
Starting at Sunderland
Pickford joined Sunderland's Academy when he was eight years old. He moved up through the different age groups. In 2010, he signed a two-year scholarship. The next year, he joined the reserve team.
In 2011, Pickford signed his first professional contract with Sunderland. He signed another contract extension the following year.
Loan Spells
To gain more experience, Pickford went on several loan spells to other clubs.
- Darlington and Alfreton Town: In 2012, he joined Darlington on loan. He played 17 games for them. In 2013, he moved to Alfreton Town on loan. He kept 5 clean sheets in 12 matches there.
- Burton Albion and Carlisle United: In 2013, Pickford had two loan spells with Burton Albion. He played 13 times for them. In 2014, he joined Carlisle United on loan. He made 18 appearances for Carlisle.
- Bradford City: In 2014, Pickford went on a season-long loan to Bradford City. He played 33 league games and became their first-choice goalkeeper. He was recalled by Sunderland in March 2015.
- Preston North End: In 2015, Pickford joined Preston North End on a season-long loan. He kept many clean sheets, including three in his first three league games. He also helped Preston beat Premier League team Watford in the League Cup. His teammate, Chris Kirkland, praised his skills, especially his kicking.
Back at Sunderland
On 1 January 2016, Sunderland called Pickford back because their team was struggling in the Premier League. He made his first team debut in an FA Cup loss to Arsenal. A week later, he played his first Premier League game against Tottenham Hotspur. By age 21, he had played in all top five English football leagues. In January 2016, he signed a new contract with Sunderland until 2020.
For the 2016–17 season, Pickford became Sunderland's main goalkeeper after Vito Mannone got injured. He made many saves and was nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year award in April 2017.
Joining Everton
First Seasons (2017–2020)
On 15 June 2017, Pickford signed with Everton for £25 million, which could rise to £30 million. This made him one of the most expensive goalkeepers ever at that time. He made his league debut for Everton on 12 August 2017. After his first season, he was named Everton's Player of the Season.
In December 2018, Pickford made a mistake in a game against Liverpool, which led to Liverpool scoring a winning goal. In March 2019, he saved a penalty against Newcastle United. Despite some errors, he remained Everton's first-choice goalkeeper.
During the 2019–20 season, Pickford played all 38 Premier League games and kept 13 clean sheets. Even though he made some mistakes, his manager, Carlo Ancelotti, supported him. Pickford also performed well in the EFL Cup, helping Everton reach the quarter-finals.
Recent Seasons (2020–Present)
Pickford continued as Everton's main goalkeeper in the 2020–21 season. Everton won their first four games, a first since 1969–70. In a game against Liverpool, he was criticised for a tackle on Virgil van Dijk.
In the 2021–22 season, Pickford had a great year. He won Everton's Player of the Season award. He also won the Premier League Save of the Season award for an amazing save against Chelsea.
For the 2022–23 season, Pickford kept his first clean sheet in a Merseyside derby draw. Experts praised his performance, saying he deserved to be England's first-choice goalkeeper. In February 2023, he signed a new contract with Everton until June 2027.
At the end of the 2023–24 season, Pickford was named Everton Player of the Season for the third year in a row.
International Career
Youth Teams

Pickford has played for England at every youth level, from under-16 to under-21. He made his England U16 debut in October 2009. In 2011, he played in the 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup. In one game, he conceded a goal from a kick by the opposing goalkeeper, which is very rare.
In August 2015, he was called up to the England under-21 squad. He made his debut for them in September 2015. In October 2015, he even assisted a goal with a long pass from his own penalty area. His team won the 2016 Toulon Tournament in 2016.
In October 2016, Pickford was first called up to the senior squad. He led the England under-21 team to the semi-finals of the 2017 UEFA European Under-21 Championship in June 2017.
Senior Team
Pickford made his debut for the senior England team on 10 November 2017. It was a friendly game against Germany at Wembley Stadium, which ended in a 0–0 draw.
2018 FIFA World Cup
Pickford was chosen for England's squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. He played in the first game, which England won 2–1. In the round of 16, he helped England beat Colombia 4–3 in a penalty shoot-out. He saved a penalty, helping England win their first World Cup penalty shoot-out ever.
On 7 July 2018, Pickford kept his first clean sheet of the World Cup. England beat Sweden 2–0 in the quarter-finals. This win sent England to the World Cup semi-finals for the first time since 1990.
2019 UEFA Nations League
In June 2019, Pickford scored a penalty and then saved one in a shoot-out. This helped England beat Switzerland to finish third in the first UEFA Nations League Finals. He became the first goalkeeper to take and score a penalty in a competitive shoot-out for England.
Euro 2020
In June 2021, Pickford was part of the England squad for UEFA Euro 2020. He became the first goalkeeper in history to keep clean sheets in the first five games of a European Championship. He also set an England record for most consecutive minutes without conceding a goal (721 minutes). In the final against Italy, Pickford saved two penalties in the shoot-out. However, England lost the final 3–2 after missing their last three penalties.
2022 FIFA World Cup
Pickford was selected for England's squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He played every minute of England's games and kept three clean sheets. These were against the USA (0–0) and Wales (3–0) in the group stage. He also kept a clean sheet against Senegal in the Round of 16. Pickford played his 50th game for England in their quarter-final loss to France.
Euro 2024
In June 2024, Pickford was named in England's squad for UEFA Euro 2024. He kept a clean sheet in the first game against Serbia, which was his tenth clean sheet for England in a major international tournament. This equaled Peter Shilton's record. On 25 June, he broke the record with his eleventh clean sheet in a 0–0 draw against Slovenia.
In the Euro 2024 quarter-final against Switzerland, the game went to a penalty shoot-out. Pickford saved the first penalty, helping England win 5–3.
