Club Career
Early Days: Cannes and Bordeaux
Julien Faubert was born in Le Havre, France. He joined the Cannes football academy in 1998. He first played as a defender on the right or left side. But he was very good at crossing the ball. This meant he often played as a right winger or in the middle of the field.
He made his first team debut for Cannes in the 2002–03 season. He became an important player for the team. Soon, bigger clubs in France noticed him. Bordeaux signed him in 2004. He played 96 league matches for Bordeaux. He also got to play in the exciting UEFA Champions League competition.
Time at West Ham United
On 1 July 2007, Julien Faubert joined West Ham United in England. He signed a five-year contract. Sadly, he got a serious injury to his achilles tendon during a friendly match in July. This injury meant he was out of action for about six months.
He finally played his first game for West Ham on 12 January 2008. He came on as a substitute against Fulham. His first season in England was tough because of his injury. He only played eight games in total.
Loan to Real Madrid
On 31 January 2009, Faubert moved to Real Madrid on a loan deal. This was a big move to one of the world's most famous clubs! He played his first game for Real Madrid on 7 February 2009. It was a 1–0 win against Racing de Santander. During his time there, he once missed training because he thought it was a day off by mistake. His loan ended with him playing only two matches for Real Madrid.
Back to West Ham
After his loan, Faubert returned to West Ham for the 2009–10 season. He had a great start to this season. He helped West Ham win games and play well. He scored his first goal for the club in his 50th league game for West Ham. This was against Hull City on 20 February 2010. He also helped set up other goals for his teammates. He even won the 'Performance Of The Season' award for his great game against Hull.
The 2010–11 season was not as good for Faubert. He played in different positions, sometimes on the wing and sometimes at right-back. He sometimes struggled to get into the team.
For the 2011–12 season, many thought Faubert would leave West Ham. But he stayed and became the first-choice right-back. He played a big part in West Ham getting promoted back to the top league. In May 2012, his contract ended, and he left West Ham. He played 121 games for the club and scored two goals.
Later Clubs
After West Ham, Faubert joined Elazığspor in Turkey in June 2012. He signed a three-year contract with them.
In January 2013, he returned to his old club, Bordeaux, as a free player. He played there until the end of the 2012–13 season. He scored a goal for Bordeaux in a 1–0 win against Guingamp in December 2013.
In February 2016, Faubert signed for Kilmarnock in Scotland. He played there until the end of the season. In January 2017, he moved to Finland to play for FC Inter Turku.
In January 2018, Faubert joined Borneo, a club in Indonesia. He played 15 games and scored 3 goals before leaving in July 2018. In June 2019, he took on a new role. He became a player-assistant manager for Étoile Fréjus Saint-Raphaël in France. He left this role in January 2020.
International Career
Julien Faubert played his first game for the French national team on 16 August 2006. This was against Bosnia and Herzegovina. He wore the number 10 shirt, which was special because it was the first time someone wore it for France since Zinedine Zidane retired. Faubert made his debut even more special by scoring a goal in the last minute! France won the game 2–1. Even though he didn't get called up again for France, he always hoped to play for them again.
In 2009, Faubert mentioned that the Algerian Football Federation asked him to play for Algeria. This was because his wife is Algerian. He said he would think about it if France didn't call him up. However, the Algerian coach later said they had not contacted Faubert.
In October 2014, Faubert made his international debut for Martinique. He played in a 2014 Caribbean Cup qualification game against Curaçao and scored a goal. He then scored two goals in each of the next two matches against Guadeloupe and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
