Club Career Highlights
Starting Out: Cannes and Bordeaux
Julien Faubert was born in Le Havre, France. He joined the Cannes football academy in 1998. He began as a defender, playing as a right or left back. However, he was very good at crossing the ball. This skill helped him become a right winger and also play in the midfield.
He made his first team debut for Cannes in the 2002–03 season. He became an important player for the team. Soon, bigger clubs in Ligue 1, France's top league, noticed him. In 2004, Bordeaux signed him. He played 96 league matches for Bordeaux and also played in the UEFA Champions League, a big European competition.
Time in England: West Ham United
On July 1, 2007, Julien Faubert joined West Ham United in England. He signed a five-year contract. Sadly, he got a serious injury to his achilles tendon during a friendly match in July. This injury meant he would be out of action for about six months.
He worked hard to recover and finally played his first game for West Ham on January 12, 2008. He came on as a substitute against Fulham. His first season in England was tough because of his injuries. He only played eight games in the league and FA Cup.
Loan to Real Madrid
In January 2009, Julien Faubert got an amazing chance. He was allowed to talk to Real Madrid, one of the biggest clubs in the world. On January 31, he joined Real Madrid on a loan deal until the end of the 2008–09 season.
He made his debut for Real Madrid on February 7, 2009, in a 1–0 win. During his time there, he accidentally missed a training session, thinking he had the day off. His loan spell ended with him playing only two matches for the Spanish giants.
Back to West Ham
After his loan at Real Madrid, Faubert returned to West Ham. He had a great start to the 2009–10 season. He helped West Ham win games and played very well. This season was much better for him. He showed many impressive performances, especially in the second half of the season.
He scored his first goal for West Ham in his 50th league game for the club. This was against Hull City on February 20, 2010. He also set up another goal in that game. He continued to provide assists for his teammates. He even won the 'Performance Of The Season' award for his great game against Hull.
The 2010–11 season was not as successful for him. He played in different positions, sometimes on the wing and sometimes at right-back. He faced more competition for his spot in the team.
At the start of the 2011–12 season, West Ham was in the Championship after being relegated. Faubert was expected to leave, but he stayed. He became West Ham's main right-back and played a big part in helping the team get promoted back to the top league. In May 2012, his contract with West Ham ended, and he left the club. He played 121 games for West Ham in total, scoring two goals.
