The Jurupa Mountains, also known as the Jurupa Hills, are a small mountain range in southern California. They are part of the larger Peninsular Ranges System. You can find them in the northwestern part of Riverside County and the southwestern part of San Bernardino County. This area is often called the Inland Empire region.
About the Jurupa Mountains
The tallest point in the Jurupa Mountains is Mount Jurupa. It stands at about 2,217 feet (676 meters) high. Both the mountain and the range get their name from the Rancho Jurupa. This was a large piece of land granted by the Mexican government in 1838. It was one of the very first settlements in this part of California.
The southern side of the mountains slopes down towards the city of Jurupa Valley. Here, you'll also find the Pomona Freeway (State Route 60). On the northern side, the mountains descend into the city of Fontana and the community of Declezville.
The Pedley Hills are located just east of the Jurupa Mountains. The Pomona Valley curves around the northern and western parts of the range.
