Kirby's Dream Land 2 is a classic platform game that first came out in 1995. It was made by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy handheld console. This exciting adventure lets you join Kirby as he explores Dream Land.

This game builds on earlier Kirby adventures like Kirby's Dream Land and Kirby's Adventure. It introduces three helpful animal friends who join Kirby in his quest. You could even play it on the Super Game Boy, which added cool colors and special sounds!

Years later, fans could play it again on the 3DS's Virtual Console starting in 2012. It was also part of the Kirby's Dream Collection for the Wii console.

Kirby's Exciting Story

In Kirby's Dream Land 2, you follow the brave hero Kirby in his home, Dream Land. A dark force named Dark Matter has caused trouble. It stole the beautiful Rainbow Bridges connecting the seven Rainbow Islands! Dark Matter even took control of King Dedede, planning to conquer all of Dream Land.

Kirby won't let that happen! He sets off on an adventure to stop Dark Matter. Luckily, he's not alone. Three new animal friends join him: Rick the hamster, Kine the fish, and Coo the owl.

As Kirby travels across the Rainbow Islands, he eventually finds the controlled King Dedede and defeats him. If you've collected all seven special Rainbow Drops along the way, they combine into a powerful Rainbow Sword. This sword helps free King Dedede from Dark Matter's control. Kirby then uses this magical sword to face Dark Matter one last time. After a final battle, Kirby wins! He uses the sword to create a brand-new rainbow, bringing peace back to Dream Land.

How to Play: Kirby's Amazing Abilities

Kirby's Dream Land 2 is a fun platform game, just like other Kirby games. You guide Kirby through many levels. He can walk, swim, and even fly! Your goal is to reach the end of each stage.

But watch out! Many obstacles will try to stop Kirby. These include tricky pits and various enemies. If Kirby gets hit, he loses some health. Don't worry, eating food helps him recover! You start with three lives. If Kirby loses all his health or falls off the screen, you lose a life. The game ends if you run out of lives, but you can always continue from your last save point.

Kirby's Basic Moves

Kirby has several cool basic moves. He can run, jump, swim, and fly. To fly, Kirby first inhales air by pressing the Up button. Then, press the jump button repeatedly to float higher and higher! When you're ready, you can exhale the air. This creates a puff that can damage enemies or break blocks.

Inhaling and Copying Powers

Kirby's most famous ability is inhaling! Hold down the B button to suck in enemies, objects, or food. If it's food, Kirby swallows it to heal. If it's an enemy or object, he holds it in his mouth. From there, he can spit it out as a star to hit other enemies. Or, he can swallow certain enemies to gain their special powers! Imagine breathing ice or turning into a stone statue!

Meet Kirby's Animal Friends

Kirby's Dream Land 2 introduces three awesome animal friends who help Kirby. You can ride them to make your adventure easier!

  • Rick the Hamster: Rick is super fast and won't slip on ice. He's great for speedy ground travel!
  • Coo the Owl: Coo can fly quickly, even through strong winds. While riding Coo, Kirby can even inhale enemies in the air!
  • Kine the Fish: Kine is a fantastic swimmer. He moves easily through water, even against strong currents. Kirby can also inhale underwater with Kine!

These friends also change Kirby's copy abilities. For example, if Kirby has the Spark ability:

  • Riding Rick changes it to a powerful Beam attack.
  • Coo lets Kirby call down a lightning bolt from the sky.
  • Kine allows Kirby to shoot light bulbs at foes underwater.

Game's Look and Sound

Kirby's Dream Land 2 has a classic 2D look, just like the first Kirby's Dream Land. On a regular Game Boy, the game appears in shades of gray.

However, if you played it on a Super Game Boy, things got much more colorful! The game would show a special border featuring Kirby's animal friends. The graphics also gained limited colors. Each stage had its own color theme. For instance, "Grass Land" looked yellow, and "Big Forest" was green. The world map also became more vibrant, with blue skies and white clouds. Even the ending sequence used many colors, showing Kirby painting a beautiful rainbow!

The Super Game Boy also added special sound effects. You could hear applause on the start screen, wind gusts on the stage select screen, and thunder on the final stage.

The music for Kirby's Dream Land 2 was created by Hirokazu Ando and Tadashi Ikegami. They are both talented composers who often work with HAL Laboratory.
