Early Life and Journey
Kossisko was born in 1991 or 1992. He grew up in Berkeley, California. When he was 16, his father sent him to a boarding school. This school was in Abidjan, a city in the Ivory Coast in Africa. Kossisko thought he was going on vacation, but he stayed at the school for a long time.
At the boarding school, he lived in a house with many other people. He also got malaria several times. While living in the Ivory Coast, he learned to speak French. Kossisko came back to the United States in late 2010.
Music Career Highlights
Kossisko wrote his first song in 2008. He started recording music in early 2010. He began to take rapping seriously in 2011 when he was 19. After returning from the Ivory Coast, Kossisko moved back to Berkeley. There, he started recording his first mixtape as 100s, called Ice Cold Perm.
On September 5, 2012, 100s released Ice Cold Perm. Most of the songs were produced by Joe Wax. The cover art for the mixtape was inspired by Snoop Dogg's album Tha Doggfather. Other artists like Main Attrakionz and Ryan Hemsworth also worked on the mixtape. Many music critics liked Ice Cold Perm. In October 2012, a music video for his song "Brick Sell Phone" was released.
In January 2013, Ice Cold Perm became available to download online. In early 2013, Kossisko went on a tour called the Group Hug Tour. He also performed at the SXSW music festival in 2013.
On June 4, 2013, 100s released the music video for his song "1999." Soon after, it was announced that he had signed with A-Trak's Fool's Gold Records. The magazine Complex named him a new rapper to watch. His song "Life of a Mack" was featured in the video game Grand Theft Auto V. Because of its popularity in the game, 100s released it as his first single in September 2013. He was also in an iPhone 5c commercial around that time. From October to December 2013, 100s toured with ASAP Ferg. He was named one of the top ten West Coast rappers to watch in 2014.
In February 2014, 100s shared that he would release a free EP called Ivry. The EP was released on March 6, 2014, by Fool's Gold. It received good reviews from music critics. Many praised him for bringing back the g-funk music style.
In a 2016 interview, Kossisko said he felt "reborn" after he stopped using the 100s name. He explained that his work as 100s was partly connected to his feelings about being sent to Africa.
