The Kulm District is a special area, like a county, in the canton of Aargau, Switzerland. It's located west of Lake Hallwil and includes parts of the Wyna and Suhre valleys.

The main town in the district is Unterkulm. The biggest town is Reinach. This district has 16 different towns and villages, which are called municipalities. The total area of the Kulm District is about 101.35 square kilometers. As of 31 December 2020, about 42,878 people live here.

What the Land is Used For

The Kulm district covers about 101.37 square kilometers. A big part of this land, almost half (49.8%), is used for farming. This means there are lots of fields and farms.

Another large part, about 31.8%, is covered by forests. The rest of the land, about 14.2%, has buildings and roads. This is where people live and where towns are built.

The Kulm district has a population of 42,878 people as of December 2020. About 22.6% of the people living here are from other countries.

Working in Kulm District

In the year 2000, there were 18,062 people living in the district who had jobs. Most of them, about 70.5%, traveled outside the district for work. However, 7,159 people came into the district to work. Overall, there were 12,481 jobs available in the district.

Beliefs and Religions

Based on information from the year 2000, many people in Kulm District follow different religions. About 22.7% of the people were Roman Catholic. A larger group, about 54.3%, belonged to the Swiss Reformed Church. A very small number, about 0.08%, were part of the Christian Catholic faith.

Changes to Municipalities

Sometimes, smaller towns or villages join together to form a larger one. This is called a merger. Since the year 2000, one such change has happened in the Kulm District:

  • On January 1, 2023, the municipality of Burg became part of Menziken.
