Kurt Farquhar is a talented composer who creates music for TV shows and movies. He lives in Los Angeles, California. Kurt has won many awards for his music, including ten BMI awards. He is famous for writing the music for popular shows like The King of Queens, Girlfriends, Sister, Sister, and The Neighborhood. Kurt has composed music for more prime-time TV series than any other African-American composer. He also composed the music for the CBS show Beyond the Gates.
Kurt grew up in Chicago and is the youngest of five children. His older brother, Ralph Farquhar, is a TV producer and writer. They have worked together on several shows.
Kurt loved music from a young age. He studied music at the famous Berklee College of Music in Boston. He also attended The National Conservatory of Music in Versailles, France. By the time he was 12, Kurt had already written his first symphonic piece. When he was in his early twenties, Kurt performed with jazz artists. One famous musician he played with was the Grammy Award-winning trumpet player Freddie Hubbard.
Later, Kurt was the lead singer of a band called Big Slamm. They released their first song, "Livin' Large." This song became the ending music for a TV show pilot called Livin' Large. After that, Kurt started creating theme songs and music for many other TV shows and movies.
Kurt is also the founder and CEO of True Music. This company helps license music for TV, movies, and other projects. It is located in Pasadena, California.
