Lady Lovely Locks facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Lady Lovely Locks and the Pixietails is a magical world created by American Greetings in the mid-1980s. This company also brought us characters like Strawberry Shortcake and the Care Bears. The characters became popular toys made by Mattel. They also starred in an animated TV show by DiC Animation City in 1987. However, only 20 episodes were ever made.

Toy Line

The Lady Lovely Locks toys were made by Mattel from 1987 to 1989. The toy line featured dolls about 8.5 inches tall. Some dolls had very long, colorful hair. Most dolls came with three or four Pixietails. These were small, squirrel-like plastic animals with long, silky tails. Kids could wear the Pixietails in their own hair or the doll's hair. The toy line also included other pets and fun playsets.

Animated Series

Lady Lovely Locks is the princess of the Kingdom of Lovely Locks. She and her friends work with the Pixietails to keep their kingdom safe. They protect it from bad guys.

Who are the good guys?

The heroes of the show include Lady Lovely Locks herself. Her friends are Maiden Fair Hair and Maiden Curly Crown. Of course, the helpful Pixietails are also heroes. Other good characters are Prince Strong Heart, the wise Shining Glory, Silky Pup (a cute puppy), and Silky Mane (a loyal pony).

Who are the bad guys?

The main villains are Duchess Ravenwaves, Hairball, and the Comb Gnomes. The Comb Gnomes often speak in rhymes. The show only lasted for one season before it was cancelled.

Who made the show?

The series was produced by French and Japanese animators. They also worked on other 1980s cartoons like Rainbow Brite and Jem. Shuki Levy and Haim Saban composed the music for the show. The original "Lady Lovely Locks" theme song was sung by Donna De Lory.

Where can you watch it?

Hi-Tops released five Lady Lovely Locks videos in the 1980s. Later, the videos came out again on DVD. Some episodes are part of the "Girls Rule Vol. 1" DVD set. This set also includes Jem and Rainbow Brite. You can also find some episodes on a "Biggest DVD Ever" series for Lady Lovely Locks. Two episodes were only released on an Australian VHS tape.
