Lambert's Castle Hill is a cool place in Dorset, England. It stands 258 metres (846 feet) tall. You can find it between the villages of Marshwood and Fishpond Bottom. This hill is part of the South Dorset Downs. It is also known as a "HuMP," which means it's a hill with a height of over 100 metres above the land around it.

From the summit, you can spot several famous landmarks. To the east, you'll see Pilsdon Pen and Lewesdon Hill. Lewesdon Hill is actually the highest point in Dorset! Looking south, you can see Hardown Hill, Langdon Hill, and the famous Golden Cap along the coast.

A writer named Sir Frederick Treves once wrote about Lambert's Castle Hill. He said that many people believe the view from here is the best in the whole county. He described seeing Portland, the sea crashing on Chesil Beach, and even parts of the Devon coast. On a clear day, you might even see the uplands of Wiltshire and Somerset far away.
Where is Lambert's Castle Hill?
Lambert's Castle Hill is easy to find on a map. It's about 7 kilometres (4.3 miles) east of a town called Axminster. It's also around 6 kilometres (3.7 miles) north of the coastal village of Charmouth. The very top of the hill is about 210 metres (689 feet) northeast of a special marker called a trig point.
The Ancient Hill Fort
The top of Lambert's Castle Hill is home to an ancient Iron Age hill fort. This fort is called Lambert's Castle. It was built around 2,500 years ago by people living in the Iron Age. Imagine what life was like back then!
More Recent History
Over the years, the hilltop has been used for different things. At one point, it was even a racecourse! For more than 200 years, a popular fair was held there. People would gather for fun, games, and trading.
