Lazio is one of the twenty regions of Italy. It is located in the central part of Italy. The main city and capital of Lazio is Rome.
Geography of Lazio
Lazio is in Central Italy. It covers an area of about 17,232 square kilometers (6,653 square miles). It shares borders with several other regions. To the northwest, it borders Tuscany. To the north, it borders Umbria. The Marche region is to its northeast. To the east, you'll find the Abruzzo and Molise regions. Campania is to the southeast. The Tyrrhenian Sea is to the west. The tiny Vatican City is also located inside Lazio.

The most important river in Lazio is the Tiber. The highest point in the region is Monte Gorzano. This mountain is on the border with the Abruzzo region. It stands at an altitude of 2,458 meters (8,064 feet) high.
The Pontine Islands are a group of islands. They are located in the Tyrrhenian Sea. These islands are also part of the Lazio region.
