Oklahoma in United States
Map of the United States with Oklahoma highlighted

Oklahoma is a large state located in the southern part of the United States. In 2020, about 3.9 million people lived in Oklahoma, making it the 28th most populated state. It's also the 19th largest state by land area, covering over 68,000 square miles (177,000 square kilometers).

Oklahoma is divided into 77 areas called counties. Within these counties, there are 596 different cities and towns.

In Oklahoma, a "city" is a community with 1,000 or more people. These cities have their own local governments. Smaller communities are called "towns." Towns have a simpler type of local government run by a town board. Cities can choose different ways to manage their government, like having a mayor or a city council. Sometimes, a city might even decide to become a town if it prefers a simpler government style.
