A Look at Lucens' Past

Lucens has a very long history! It was first mentioned in written records way back in the year 964. At that time, it was known by the name in villa Losingus. For a while, it was also called Losingen in German.

The Lucens Reactor

In 1969, an underground facility called the Lucens reactor started operating in Lucens. It was a special kind of power plant. However, it soon had a serious problem. This led to the site being sealed off to keep everyone safe.

How Lucens Grew

Over the years, Lucens has grown by joining with nearby towns.

On July 1, 2011, the nearby town of Oulens-sur-Lucens became part of Lucens.
Later, on January 1, 2017, several other towns joined Lucens. These included Brenles, Chesalles-sur-Moudon, Cremin, Forel-sur-Lucens, and Sarzens. This made Lucens a bigger and more important municipality.
