Lucens is a charming town, also known as a municipality, located in the Broye-Vully area of Switzerland. It is part of the canton of Vaud, which is like a state or region in Switzerland.
A Look at Lucens' Past
Lucens has a very long history! It was first mentioned in written records way back in the year 964. At that time, it was known by the name in villa Losingus. For a while, it was also called Losingen in German.
The Lucens Reactor
In 1969, an underground facility called the Lucens reactor started operating in Lucens. It was a special kind of power plant. However, it soon had a serious problem. This led to the site being sealed off to keep everyone safe.
How Lucens Grew
Over the years, Lucens has grown by joining with nearby towns.
- On July 1, 2011, the nearby town of Oulens-sur-Lucens became part of Lucens.
- Later, on January 1, 2017, several other towns joined Lucens. These included Brenles, Chesalles-sur-Moudon, Cremin, Forel-sur-Lucens, and Sarzens. This made Lucens a bigger and more important municipality.
