Lyle is a small city in Mower County, Minnesota, United States. It is located right on the northern border of Iowa. In 2020, about 522 people lived in Lyle.

History of Lyle
Lyle was officially planned out in 1870. The city was named after Robert Lyle. He was a farmer and also a politician in Minnesota. Lyle became an official city in 1875.
Geography of Lyle
Lyle is in the southwestern part of Mower County. Its southern border touches the state line of Iowa. To the north and west, it is next to Lyle Township. To the east, it borders Nevada Township.
U.S. Route 218 goes through the middle of Lyle. This road is called 1st Street in the city. If you go north on this road, it's about 12 miles (19 km) to Austin. Austin is the main city in Mower County. If you go south, it's about 21 miles (34 km) to Osage, Iowa.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Lyle covers an area of about 0.76 square miles (1.97 km2). All of this area is land. Otter Creek flows through the southeast part of the city. It then goes southwest to the Cedar River in Otranto, Iowa.
People of Lyle
Lyle is home to a diverse group of people. In 2010, there were 551 people living in the city. Most residents were White. A small number of people were Native American or from other backgrounds. About 0.7% of the population was Hispanic or Latino.
The average age in Lyle in 2010 was 36.3 years old. About 27% of the people were under 18. About 15% were 65 years old or older. The city had slightly more females than males.
Lyle School District
The Lyle Independent School District #497 serves the city of Lyle. It also serves the farms around the city.
For sports, the Lyle school district has teamed up with Austin Pacelli. Austin Pacelli is a Catholic high school in Austin. The sports teams, once called the Lyle Lions, are now known as the Lyle-Pacelli Athletics. Because the district is small, Lyle-Pacelli often plays against schools with many more students. They play nine-man football, which is a version of football with fewer players.
The community of Lyle had a big discussion about building a new school from 2002 to 2005. There were two main groups. One group wanted to build a new school. The other group thought there were cheaper ways to solve the school's needs. In 2005, the community voted on a plan to build a new school. The plan passed with 449 votes for and 343 votes against. A new school has since been built where the old one used to be.
