László Cseh (born December 3, 1985) is a famous Hungarian swimmer. He is known for winning many medals in big swimming competitions. László has won six Olympic medals and is a 33-time European Champion! His dad, László Cseh Sr., was also an Olympic swimmer. Even though he won many medals, he never won an Olympic gold medal.

About László Cseh

László Cseh started swimming when he was very young. His father was an Olympic swimmer, so swimming was a big part of his family life. László was coached by György Turi and Zoltán Nemes. He also received a special scholarship to help him train for the Olympics.

László's Swimming Journey

László Cseh began his amazing swimming career early on. He quickly started winning medals at major events.

First Big Wins: 2003 World Championships

At the 2003 World Championships, László won his first big medal. He earned a silver medal in the 400-meter individual medley. This was a huge step for him! He also set new national records in other races.

The 2004 Athens Olympics

László went to the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece. He had broken his ankle just weeks before, but he still competed! He bravely won a bronze medal in the 400-meter individual medley. He also placed fourth in the 200-meter individual medley and sixth in the 100-meter backstroke.

World Championships Success: 2005 and 2007

At the 2005 World Championships, László showed how strong he was. He set new national records. He won his first gold medal at a World Championship in the 400-meter individual medley. In 2007, he set another national record in the 200-meter individual medley.

The 2008 Beijing Olympics

László competed in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He set European records in three different races. He won silver medals in all three: the 400-meter individual medley, 200-meter butterfly, and 200-meter individual medley. In these races, he finished second to the famous American swimmer Michael Phelps.

Challenges and Triumphs: 2009-2011

At the 2009 World Championships in Rome, László faced a challenge. He got a stomach virus and had to miss his first race. But he came back strong! He set a European record in the 200-meter individual medley and won a silver medal. He also took home a bronze in the 400-meter individual medley.

In 2010, at the European Championships, László won gold medals in both the 200-meter and 400-meter individual medley races. He continued to win medals, including a bronze at the 2011 World Championships.

The 2012 London Olympics

László competed in six events at the 2012 Olympics. He won another Olympic medal, a bronze, in the 200-meter individual medley. He finished behind Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte, two of the best swimmers in the world.

A Decade Later: 2015 World Championships

At the 2015 World Aquatics Championships, László won another gold medal. This was 10 years after his first World Championship gold! He won the 200-meter butterfly race, beating Chad le Clos by a tiny bit.

The 2016 Rio Olympics

László competed in the 2016 Olympics. In the 100-meter butterfly, he tied for second place with Michael Phelps and Chad le Clos. Joseph Schooling from Singapore won the race. This silver medal meant László had won Olympic medals in four different Olympic Games!

Final Race: 2020 Tokyo Olympics

At the 2020 Olympics, László Cseh competed in his fifth and final Olympic Games. He was 35 years old and raced in the men's 200-meter individual medley. He finished 7th in the race. After this race, he announced his retirement from competitive swimming. He ended his amazing career with six Olympic medals and 13 World Championship medals.
