Club Career: Mahmoud Dahoud's Football Journey
Starting Out at Borussia Mönchengladbach
Mahmoud Dahoud began playing football at a young age. He played for junior clubs like Germania Reusrath and Fortuna Düsseldorf. When he was 14, in 2010, he joined Gladbach. He spent five years learning and growing in Gladbach's youth academy. By 2014, he was ready to play for the main team.
First Steps: 2014–15 Season
On August 27, 2014, Dahoud played his first game for the senior team. This was in a Europa League match against FK Sarajevo. Gladbach won 7–0. He came on as a substitute in the 55th minute. Just before this, Dahoud signed his first professional contract. This deal kept him at the club until June 2018.
He played only two more senior games that season. One was in the Europa League and the other was his Bundesliga debut against Borussia Dortmund. When he played his first Bundesliga game, Dahoud became the first player born in Syria to play in that league.
Becoming a Key Player: 2015–16 Season
In the 2015–16 Bundesliga season, Dahoud started playing more often. He became an important player in the midfield for the new manager, André Schubert. He scored his first goal for the club on September 23, 2015. This was in a 4–2 win against Augsburg.
Dahoud also made his Champions League debut that season. He played against Sevilla and later started a game against Manchester City. Fans noticed his great playing and voted him Player of the Month for September. In October, he had an amazing game against Eintracht Frankfurt. He scored one goal and helped set up two others in a 5–1 win.
Later, on Valentine's Day, Dahoud scored the winning goal in a local derby against Köln. By the end of the season, he had played 32 league games. He scored 5 goals and helped with 9 assists. Gladbach finished fourth in the Bundesliga, which meant they could play in the 2016–17 UEFA Champions League qualifiers.
Moving On: 2016–17 Season
In August 2016, Dahoud's agent said he had turned down a new contract. This was because he wanted to leave the club at the end of the season. Big clubs like Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain were interested in him. He played his first game of the season on August 20 in a cup win.
He scored his first goal of the season on November 26 in a 1–1 draw against Hoffenheim. On March 16, 2017, he scored his first goal in a European competition. This was in a 2–2 Europa League game against Schalke. Even though Dahoud's goal put Gladbach ahead, they were knocked out of the competition.
With only one year left on his contract, Gladbach announced on March 30 that Dahoud would join Borussia Dortmund. He played 41 matches that season. Some Gladbach fans were not happy about him leaving.

Moving to England: Brighton & Hove Albion
On June 16, 2023, it was announced that Dahoud would join Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion. He joined for free on July 1 and signed a four-year contract. He played his first game for Brighton on August 12. This was in the first game of the season, a 4–1 home win against Luton Town.
