Maia McCall Mitchell (born 18 August 1993) is a talented Australian actress and singer. She is well-known for her roles in many movies and TV shows. Maia has been nominated for several awards, including eight Teen Choice Awards.
Maia grew up in Lismore, New South Wales, Australia. She started her acting journey on Australian TV. She played main characters in shows like Mortified (2006–2007), Trapped (2008–2009), and Castaway (2011).
Later, Maia moved to America. Her first movie was the science fiction thriller After the Dark (2013). She became very famous after starring with Ross Lynch in the Disney Channel musical movies Teen Beach Movie (2013) and Teen Beach 2 (2015).
She also gained global fame for her role as Callie Adams Foster in the TV series The Fosters (2013–2018). She continued this role in the follow-up series Good Trouble (2019–2024), where she also helped produce the show. During this time, Maia also acted in movies like Hot Summer Nights (2017) and The Last Summer (2019).
In 2022, Maia returned to Australia. She played Lady Belle Fox in the Disney+ historical comedy series The Artful Dodger (2023). Maia has also sung on the soundtracks for the Teen Beach Movie films. She has also performed many cover songs on her own and with her former partner Rudy Mancuso.

Maia Mitchell's Early Life and Beginnings
Maia Mitchell was born in Lismore, New South Wales, Australia. Her father, Alex, worked as a taxi driver. Her mother, Jill, worked in the education system. Maia has one younger brother named Charlie.
She started learning to play the guitar when she was very young. You can see her guitar skills in some of her movies and TV shows. Maia attended Trinity Catholic College, Lismore for her schooling.
Maia's Acting Journey
Starting Her Career in Australia
Maia began acting by performing in school plays. She also took part in local theater shows. Talent agencies noticed her skills. She got her first big role at age 12. This was as Brittany Flune in the Australian children's TV series Mortified.
Mortified ran for two seasons and had 26 episodes. It aired from 2006 to 2007. Because of her success on Mortified, Maia also starred in other Australian TV series. These included Trapped and its sequel Castaway. In these shows, she played the character Natasha Hamilton. She also appeared in K-9, a spin-off show about the robot dog K9 from Doctor Who.
Becoming Famous in America
Maia's first TV role in the U.S. was in the Disney Channel series Jessie. She then made her movie debut as McKenzie, or Mack, in the Disney Channel original movie Teen Beach Movie. She played this role again in Teen Beach 2.
From 2013 to 2018, she starred in The Fosters. This was a drama series on ABC Family, which later became Freeform. She played Callie Jacob, who later changed her name to Callie Adams Foster. During the final season of The Fosters, it was announced that Maia and Cierra Ramirez would get their own show. This new series was called Good Trouble, and it started in January 2019.
Critics praised Maia's acting in Good Trouble. One reviewer called her "a standout" and said she "continues to grow as a perceptive, multi-faceted actor." Maia was a main cast member until the fourth season. She chose to return to Australia during a time of floods in 2022. She later came back for guest roles in the fifth season. Maia and Cierra Ramirez also worked as executive producers for Good Trouble.
In 2018, Maia also worked with Rudy Mancuso on a song called "Magic."
Returning to Australia and New Roles
Maia returned to Los Angeles in 2023. She rejoined Good Trouble for its fifth season. In the same year, she played a main role as Lady Belle Fox in The Artful Dodger (2023). This was an 8-episode series made for Disney+. The show follows Jack "Artful Dodger" Dawkins after the story of Charles Dickens' book, Oliver Twist. In late 2024, it was announced that the series would have a second season, and Maia would return as Lady Belle Fox.
In 2024, Good Trouble finished after five seasons. Since the 2022 Australian floods, Maia has also spoken out about climate change and protecting the environment.
Maia's Personal Life
In 2022, Maia shared that she had moved back to her hometown of Lismore, New South Wales, Australia. She wanted to be with her family during the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2022 Australian flood crisis.
From 2015 to early 2022, Maia was in a relationship with American internet personality Rudy Mancuso.
