Maia McCall Mitchell (born 18 August 1993) is an Australian actress and singer. She is well-known for her roles in many films and TV shows. Maia has received several awards and nominations, including eight nominations for the Teen Choice Awards.
Maia grew up in Lismore, New South Wales, Australia. She started her acting career on Australian television. She played main characters in shows like Mortified (2006–2007), Trapped (2008–2009), and Castaway (2011).
After moving to America, Maia made her film debut in the science fiction movie After the Dark (2013). She became very famous for starring with Ross Lynch in the Disney Channel musical movies Teen Beach Movie (2013) and Teen Beach 2 (2015).
She also gained global fame for her role as Callie Adams Foster in the Freeform drama series The Fosters (2013–2018). She continued this role in the spin-off series Good Trouble (2019–2024), where she was also a producer. During this time, Mitchell also appeared in films like Hot Summer Nights (2017), Never Goin' Back (2018), and The Last Summer (2019).
In 2022, Maia returned to Australia. She played Lady Belle Fox in the Disney+ historical comedy series The Artful Dodger (2023–present). Maia has also sung on the soundtracks for Teen Beach Movie (2013) and Teen Beach 2 (2015). She has also performed many cover songs on her own and with her former partner Rudy Mancuso.

Maia Mitchell was born in Lismore, New South Wales, Australia. Her father, Alex, works as a taxi driver, and her mother, Jill, works in education. Maia has one younger brother named Charlie. She learned to play the guitar when she was young. This skill has been shown in her acting roles. She went to Trinity Catholic College in Lismore.
Career Highlights
Starting Out in Australian TV (2000s)
Maia began acting in school plays and local theater shows. Talent agencies noticed her, and she got her first big role at age 12. She was cast as Brittany Flune in the Australian children's TV series Mortified. This show ran for two seasons from 2006 to 2007.
Because of her success on Mortified, she also starred as Natasha Hamilton in the Australian TV series Trapped and its follow-up series Castaway. She also appeared in the TV series K-9, which is a spin-off of the popular British show Doctor Who. K-9 focuses on the robot dog named K9.
Becoming a Star in America (2010s)
Maia's first TV role in the U.S. was in the Disney Channel series Jessie. She then made her movie debut as the main character, McKenzie (Mack), in the Disney Channel Original Movie Teen Beach Movie. She played this role again in Teen Beach 2.
From 2013 to 2018, she starred in The Fosters, a drama series on ABC Family (later Freeform). She played Callie Jacob, who later changed her name to Callie Adams Foster. During the show's final season, it was announced that Maia and Cierra Ramirez would get their own spin-off series. This new show, called Good Trouble, started in January 2019.
Maia received great reviews for her acting in Good Trouble. One reviewer called her "a standout" and said she "continues to grow as a perceptive, multi-faceted actor." Maia was a main cast member until the second episode of the fourth season. She chose to return to Australia during the 2022 Australian flood crisis. She later came back for guest roles in the fifth season. Maia and Cierra Ramirez were also executive producers for Good Trouble. In 2018, she also worked with Rudy Mancuso on the song "Magic."
Recent Work and Return to Australia (2020s)
Maia returned to Los Angeles in 2023 to rejoin Good Trouble for its fifth season. In 2023, she also played the main role of Lady Belle Fox in The Artful Dodger. This was an 8-episode miniseries made for Disney+. The show follows Jack "Artful Dodger" Dawkins years after the story of Charles Dickens' novel, Oliver Twist (1838). It was announced in November 2024 that the series would have a second season, and Maia would return as Lady Belle Fox.
In 2024, Good Trouble finished after five seasons. In recent years, especially since the 2022 Australian flood crisis, Maia has spoken out about climate change and protecting the environment.
Personal Life
In 2022, Maia Mitchell shared that she had temporarily moved back to her hometown of Lismore, New South Wales, Australia. She wanted to be with her family during the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2022 Australian flood crisis. From 2015 to early 2022, Maia was in a relationship with American internet personality Rudy Mancuso.
