Ross Shor Lynch (born December 29, 1995) is an American singer and actor. He became well-known in the early 2010s as the lead singer of the pop rock band R5. He formed this band with his siblings. Ross also had a big role playing Austin Moon in the Disney Channel musical comedy show Austin & Ally (2011–2016).

During his time with Disney Channel, Ross Lynch also starred in the musical movies Teen Beach Movie (2013) and Teen Beach 2 (2015). His songs from the Teen Beach movies were very popular and reached the top 10 on the US music charts. He also had a hit song called "Cruisin' for a Bruisin'" from Teen Beach Movie.

After R5 ended in 2018, Ross and his brother Rocky started a new band called The Driver Era. This band plays alternative rock music. Their songs like "Rumors" (2023), "Get Off My Phone" (2024), "Don't Walk Away" (2024), and "Touch" (2024) have been very popular.

Ross Lynch is known for his unique music style. He has won many awards, including four Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards, two Teen Choice Awards, and a Radio Disney Music Award.

Early life and family

Ross Lynch was born and grew up in Littleton, Colorado, which is a suburb of Denver. He has four siblings: a sister named Rydel and three brothers named Riker, Rocky, and Ryland.

Ross was taught at home starting in fourth grade. This is when he learned to sing and play the guitar and piano. His family moved to Los Angeles in 2007. Ross is also a second cousin to famous entertainers Derek Hough and Julianne Hough. Their grandmothers were sisters.

Acting roles

Starting out with Disney

Ross Lynch appeared on TV shows like So You Think You Can Dance and Moises Rules!. He was also in a short film called Grapple in 2010. Before his big break, he was part of Kidz Bop in 2009 and appeared in a music video for Cymphonique's song "Lil' Miss Swagger".

In 2011, Ross was chosen for the main male role in the Disney Channel show Austin & Ally. He played Austin Moon, a teenage singer who becomes famous overnight. Austin then teams up with Ally, played by Laura Marano. The show started in December 2011 and was very popular, lasting for four seasons until January 10, 2016. Ross also appeared as Austin Moon in a special episode that crossed over with Jessie and on Girl Meets World.

In 2012, Ross started working on the Disney Channel Original Movie Teen Beach Movie. He played the main male character, Brady. The movie premiered on July 19, 2013, and was watched by many people. Ross also starred in the sequel, Teen Beach 2, which came out on June 26, 2015.

Ross Lynch had a small role in the 2014 movie Muppets Most Wanted. In 2016, he lent his voice to the character Piers in the English version of the French animated movie Snowtime!. This film is about a group of kids who have a huge snowball fight during Christmas.

Later film and TV work

In 2016, Ross Lynch starred in a comedy movie called Status Update. In this film, he plays a teenager who finds a magical app that makes his social media updates come true.

In 2018, Ross was cast as Harvey Kinkle, who is Sabrina Spellman's boyfriend, in the Netflix series Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. He played this role until the show ended in 2020.

Ross also performed as Mark Anthony in the Hollywood Bowl's production of A Chorus Line in July 2016. This musical is about dancers trying out for a Broadway show.

Music career

Ross Lynch can play several instruments, including piano, drums, and bass. He is especially good at playing the guitar. He also used to dance for a group called the Rage Boyz Crew in Southern California.

His first solo song, "A Billion Hits", was released on April 2, 2012. He also released "Heard It on the Radio" on July 13, 2012. Ross recorded many songs for the Austin & Ally TV show. He sang all 14 songs for the show's first soundtrack, which came out on September 12, 2012. This album was very successful, reaching high spots on the Billboard music charts.

Ross also sang most of the songs for Austin & Ally: Turn It Up, the show's second soundtrack. He recorded songs for the Teen Beach Movie soundtrack, which was one of the best-selling soundtracks of 2013. In 2015, he recorded songs for Teen Beach 2, and that soundtrack also did very well on the Billboard 200 chart.

In 2016, Ross Lynch sang on the song "I Feel the Love" by the band Tritonal.

In March 2010, Ross's band R5 released their first collection of songs called Ready Set Rock. In April 2012, they signed with Hollywood Records. Their next collection, Loud, came out on February 19, 2013.

The band's first full album, Louder, was released on September 24, 2013. It included songs from Loud and new ones. They released several popular songs from this album, like "Pass Me By" and "(I Can't) Forget About You".

On November 16, 2014, R5 released "Smile", the first song from their second album. Their second full album, Sometime Last Night, was released on July 10, 2015. It was very successful, reaching number 6 on the Billboard 200 chart.

R5 released their fifth collection of songs, New Addictions, on May 12, 2017.

The Driver Era (2018–present)

On March 1, 2018, R5's social media pages changed to "the Driver Era". Ross Lynch announced that the Driver Era would be a new band with just him and his brother Rocky. They chose the name "the Driver Era" during a car ride, feeling it showed where their music was going.

On June 13, 2019, the duo released a music video for their song "Low" and announced their first album, X. The album came out on June 28, 2019. Later that year, on October 25, 2019, the Driver Era released two more songs, "A Kiss" and "Forever Always".

The Driver Era continued to release new music. On October 20, 2023, they released "Rumors". Then, on February 22, 2024, they released "Get Off My Phone". They followed this with "You Keep Me Up at Night" on September 4, 2024, which was the first song from their upcoming album. The band announced their fourth album, Obsession, in September 2024, with a release date of February 14, 2025. On October 23, 2024, "Don't Walk Away" was released as the second song from the album. On December 17, 2024, they released their third song, "Touch". On January 28, 2025, a fourth song, "Same Old Story", was released, and the album's release date was updated to April 11, 2025.
