Marc Cucurella Saseta (born on July 22, 1998) is a talented Spanish professional footballer. He plays as a left-back or left wing-back for the famous La Liga club Real Madrid and also for the Spain national team. Many consider him one of the best left-backs in the world!
Marc started his senior club career at Barcelona. However, he spent most of his time there playing for their reserve team. He then played over 100 games in La Liga for Eibar and Getafe. In 2021, he moved to England to join Brighton & Hove Albion. After one season with Brighton, he joined Chelsea in 2022. With Chelsea, he won the Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup three years later. In 2026, he returned to Spain to play for Real Madrid.
Cucurella played for Spain at every youth level, from under-16 to under-23. He won a silver medal with the under-23 team at the 2020 Olympic tournament. He made his debut for the senior national team in 2021. He also represented Spain at UEFA Euro 2024, where Spain won the tournament, and at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Marc Cucurella's Club Journey
Early Days and Barcelona Beginnings
Marc Cucurella was born in Alella, a town near Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. He began his football journey playing futsal. In 2006, he joined Espanyol's youth teams. Later, in 2012, he moved to the famous Barcelona academy.
While still a junior player, Marc made his first senior appearance for Barcelona's reserve team (Barcelona B) in November 2016. The team won that game 4–0. He helped Barcelona B get promoted to the Segunda División, which is a higher league. In July 2017, he signed a new contract with Barcelona. He made his professional debut in September that year. His first game for the main Barcelona team was in October, coming on as a late substitute in a Copa del Rey match. In March 2018, he scored his first goal for Barcelona B.
Playing for Eibar and Getafe Clubs
On August 31, 2018, Marc was loaned to another La Liga club, Eibar, for one year. He made his top-flight debut in September. Even though Eibar lost that game, a sports journalist praised his performance. He scored his first goal in La Liga on the final day of the season in May 2019, playing against his parent club, Barcelona.

After his loan, Eibar decided to buy Marc permanently. However, just sixteen days later, Barcelona used a special clause to buy him back! But then, Barcelona loaned him to Getafe for the next season. Getafe also had an option to buy him later.
Marc played his first European club match on September 19, 2019, for Getafe in the UEFA Europa League group stage. He played in eight games during that competition. On March 3, 2020, Getafe decided to buy him permanently, and he was no longer connected to Barcelona.
Exciting Season at Brighton

On August 31, 2021, Marc joined Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion. He signed a five-year contract. He made his debut for Brighton on September 11, helping them win 1–0. Eight days later, he played his first home game for the club. In December, he made a great cross that led to a goal against Chelsea.
On May 7, 2022, Marc scored his first goal for Brighton in a fantastic 4–0 win against Manchester United. Just three days later, he won two important awards at the club's end-of-season ceremony: Players' Player of the Season and Player of the Season.
Chelsea Triumphs and Trophies

On August 5, 2022, Marc signed with another Premier League club, Chelsea, on a six-year contract. This was a record fee received by Brighton. He made his debut for Chelsea the very next day. In March 2023, he was named Player of the Match in a Champions League game, helping Chelsea reach the quarter-finals.
On March 17, 2024, he scored his first goal for Chelsea in an FA Cup quarter-final match, which Chelsea won 4–2. On December 15, 2024, Marc scored his first Premier League goal for Chelsea with a header. In the same game, he received his first red card after a disagreement with an opposing player. With Chelsea, Marc achieved great success, winning the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2025.
A New Chapter at Real Madrid
On June 15, 2026, Marc Cucurella made a big move back to Spain. He signed a six-year contract with the legendary La Liga club, Real Madrid. This transfer was a significant moment in his career.

Representing Spain's Youth Teams
Marc Cucurella proudly represented Spain at various youth levels. He played for the under-16, under-17, and under-19 teams. In September 2019, he was called up to the Spain under-21 team. He even captained the under-21 team to the semi-finals of the 2021 European U21 Championship.
Marc was also part of the Spain under-23 team that competed in the 2020 Olympic Games. These games took place in 2021 due to a delay. His team won a silver medal at this exciting tournament.
Senior Team Success and Euro 2024
In November 2020, Marc was called up to the senior Spain squad. He was an unused substitute for those games. His official debut for the senior team came on June 8, 2021, in a friendly match against Lithuania. He acted as captain in this match, which Spain won 4–0.
On March 26, 2024, Cucurella won his second cap for the Spain senior team. He played the entire match at left-back in a 3–3 draw against Brazil. In June 2024, Marc was selected for Spain's squad for UEFA Euro 2024 in Germany. He made his competitive debut in the tournament's opening match, where Spain beat Croatia 3–0.
During the Euro 2024 quarter-finals against Germany, there was a moment of discussion when Marc blocked a shot with his hand. However, the referee decided it was not a penalty.
