Mashrafe Bin Mortaza (born 5 October 1983) is a famous Bangladeshi politician and cricketer. People often call him the Narail Express. He used to be the captain for the Bangladesh national cricket team in all three types of cricket games. From 2019 to 2024, he was also a member of the Jatiya Sangsad (Bangladesh's Parliament). Many consider him the most successful captain Bangladesh's cricket team has ever had.

Mashrafe started his cricket journey in 2001. He played his first Test match against Zimbabwe. An ankle injury in 2009 made him miss some games. He even missed the 2011 Cricket World Cup. But he came back strong. He led Bangladesh to their first-ever quarterfinals in the 2015 Cricket World Cup. After that, his team won big ODI series against Pakistan, India, and New Zealand at home. These wins helped Bangladesh become a strong ODI team. His leadership also guided Bangladesh to the finals of the Asia Cup twice.

Mashrafe is known for winning the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) title many times as a captain. He won with Dhaka Gladiators in 2012. Then he won with Comilla Victorians in 2015. He also led Rangpur Riders to victory in 2017. This made him the most successful captain in the BPL. In 2019, ESPN ranked him among the world's most famous athletes. He is the first Bangladeshi fast bowler to bowl over 147 km/h. Mashrafe has faced many injuries in his career. He had ten operations on his knees and ankles. In March 2020, he stepped down as the national team captain.

Mashrafe's Cricket Career

Mashrafe is one of the best fast bowlers from Bangladesh. He impressed former West Indies bowler Andy Roberts. Roberts was coaching Bangladesh at the time. Because of Roberts' advice, Mashrafe joined the Bangladesh A team.

Starting International Cricket

Mashrafe played his first Test match on 8 November 2001. It was against Zimbabwe in Dhaka. He took 4 wickets in that game. This was special because it was also his first ever first-class match. He returned for the 2003 Cricket World Cup. But he got another knee injury in 2003. This kept him out of cricket for over a year. Injuries meant he played only 12 Tests in his first three years.

Coming Back Strong

Mashrafe made a great comeback in 2004. He played against India. He helped Bangladesh beat India in an ODI match. He took two wickets and scored 31 runs. This earned him the "man of the match" award. In 2005, Bangladesh won their first-ever Test series against Zimbabwe. Mashrafe played a key role in this historic win. He also scored his first first-class century in 2005. He made 132 runs not out.

More Injuries and Big Wins

In 2005, a back injury forced Mashrafe to leave a tour of Sri Lanka. He couldn't play for several months. He returned in 2006. In July 2006, he took his best ODI bowling figures: 6 wickets for 26 runs. In 2006, Mashrafe took 49 wickets in ODIs. This was the most by any bowler in the world that year.

Leading the National Team
