Early Life and Moving to Canada
Massari was born in Beirut, Lebanon. When he was 11 years old, his family moved to Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Two years later, at age 13, he and his younger brothers moved to Ottawa, Ontario.
He went to Hillcrest High School in Ottawa. At 13, he performed in a school talent show. This performance made him want to become a singer.
Massari's Music Career
Massari began his music career in 2001-2002. He chose the stage name "Massari" from his first name, Sari. It also means "money" in Lebanese Arabic. His first song, "Spitfire" (2002), was played on Ottawa radio stations.
First Album and Early Success
After three years of hard work, Massari released his first album, Massari, in 2005. This album was a big success. It sold enough copies to be certified Gold in Canada. Massari also became popular in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
Two of his songs, "Be Easy" and "Real Love", were big hits in Canada. They both reached the top 10 on the Canadian music charts. These songs also did well on the German Singles Chart. Because of his success, Massari signed a deal with CP Records. He became one of their most successful artists. In 2007, Massari and CP Records decided to go their separate ways.
Forever Massari and New Record Deal
In 2009, Massari released two new songs: "Bad Girl" and "Body Body". These songs were from his next album, Forever Massari. The album was released on November 10, 2009, with Universal Records Canada. Many talented writers and producers helped create the songs on this album.
Returning to CP Records and Hero EP
In the summer of 2011, Massari signed with CP Records again. On June 20, 2012, he released a free song called "Full Circle," featuring rapper Belly. This was the first song from his EP, Hero.
Massari's second song for the EP was "Brand New Day", released on July 1, 2012. He filmed the music video for this song in Miami. In January 2013, "Brand New Day" also went Gold in Canada. It also appeared on music charts in Austria, Germany, and Switzerland. The third song from the EP, "Shisha", featured French Montana and was released on May 21, 2013.
Tune In Album
On March 24, 2017, Massari released a new song called "So Long." The music video for this song featured Pia Wurtzbach, who was Miss Universe 2016. "So Long" was the first song from his third album, Tune In. This album includes songs with other artists like Mohammed Assaf, Tory Lanez, Beenie Man, Shaggy, and Afrojack.
A week later, on March 31, 2017, he released another song, "Done Da Da." Its music video got over 7.2 million views in just three weeks.
Massari's Music Style
Musical Influences
Massari has listened to many different types of music. He says his biggest influence is the famous singer George Wassouf. Massari explains, "I sing from my heart and George Wassouf taught me to do that."
Many of Massari's songs are inspired by his Middle Eastern background. His music often has Middle Eastern Arabic melodies. He says, "Because of my background, my music is heavily influenced by Middle-Eastern melodies. Over the past few years so many artists are trying to bring Arabic styles into their music, but mine is authentic." Massari often sings and raps about women, saying they inspire his upbeat and positive music.
How Massari Makes Music
Massari's music often combines singing and rapping. He mixes R&B, hip hop, and pop styles in his songs.
Personal Life
Massari can speak three languages fluently: English, Arabic, and French.
