Maura Higgins was born on 25 November 1990 in Ballymahon, County Longford, Ireland. Her parents are Sharon and Seamus Higgins. She grew up with two sisters and one brother.

Maura went to Forgney N.S. for primary school. After that, she attended Ballymahon Vocational School. After finishing school, she studied hairdressing in Athlone. She then worked at a hair salon in her hometown.

Maura was also in a relationship with Strictly Come Dancing professional Giovanni Pernice. Their relationship ended in October 2021. Between 2023 and 2024, Maura was in a relationship with Bobby Holland Hanton, who is Chris Hemsworth's stunt double.
