Meyrin is a town in Switzerland, located in the Canton of Geneva.
It's famous for being home to CERN, a huge science lab where scientists study tiny particles. Meyrin used to be a small farming village. But in the 1950s, when CERN started building nearby, it grew a lot. Now, it's a busy town with many apartment buildings. Lots of people who live here work at CERN or in the city of Geneva. Part of the Geneva International Airport is also in Meyrin.

History of Meyrin
Meyrin is a very old place! It was first written about in the year 1153. Back then, it was called Mairin.
About Meyrin's Geography

Meyrin covers an area of about 9.94 square kilometers (3.84 square miles). A big part of this land, about 35.6%, is used for farming. About 4.3% is covered by forests. Most of the land, about 59.1%, has buildings or roads on it. A tiny bit, 0.1%, is rivers or lakes.
The town is located on the right side of the Rhone river. Meyrin includes several smaller areas or villages. Some of these are CERN, Maisonnex, Mategnin, and parts of the airport area like Cointrin.
People Living in Meyrin
Meyrin has a population of about 26,129. In 2008, about 41.5% of the people living in Meyrin were from other countries. Over ten years (from 1999 to 2009), the number of people living here grew by 13.7%. This growth happened because more people moved in and more babies were born than people who passed away.
Most people in Meyrin speak French, about 73.3% of the population. The next most common languages are German (4.2%) and Italian (4.1%).
In 2008, the population was almost evenly split between men and women. About 49.9% were men and 50.1% were women. Many people living in Meyrin were born outside of Switzerland, about 40.8% in 2000.

- Chopard, a famous Swiss company that makes watches and jewelry, has its global headquarters in Meyrin. They make many of their watches and jewelry pieces here, including the famous Palme d'Or award for the Cannes Film Festival.
Religion in Meyrin
Based on a 2000 survey, about 40.1% of the people in Meyrin were Roman Catholic. About 14.7% belonged to the Swiss Reformed Church. Many other people belonged to different Christian churches, or were Muslim (6.17%), Jewish, Buddhist, or Hindu. About 21.4% of the population said they didn't belong to any church.

Education is important in Meyrin. About 30.3% of the people have finished high school. About 13.9% have gone on to get a higher education from a university or college.
During the 2009–2010 school year, there were over 4,100 students in Meyrin's schools.
- Young children can attend two years of non-required Kindergarten.
- Students then go to six years of primary school.
- After primary school, there are three years of required secondary school, followed by optional advanced schools.
Meyrin has six public primary schools. It also has a public library located inside the Forum Meyrin theatre complex.

Meyrin has two train stations: Meyrin and Zimeysa. These stations are on the train line that connects Lyon and Geneva. You can catch regular trains from here to places like La Plaine, Bellegarde, and Geneva.
