Miguel José Ferrer (born February 7, 1955 – died January 19, 2017) was an American actor. He was known for playing many different characters. One of his most famous roles was Bob Morton in the 1987 movie RoboCop.
He also appeared in films like Blank Check (1994) and Iron Man 3 (2013). Miguel Ferrer was also a voice actor. He voiced Shan Yu in Disney's Mulan (1998). On TV, he played FBI Agent Albert Rosenfield in Twin Peaks and Dr. Garret Macy in Crossing Jordan. Later, he was NCIS Assistant Director Owen Granger on NCIS: Los Angeles.

Early Life and Family
Miguel Ferrer was born in Santa Monica, California, on February 7, 1955. He was the oldest of five children. His father was the famous actor José Ferrer, who won an Academy Award. His mother was the singer Rosemary Clooney.
Miguel grew up in Hollywood and Beverly Hills. He went to Beverly Hills High School. When he was a teenager, he loved music and played the drums. He even played on an album by Keith Moon. After high school, he studied acting. Miguel Ferrer was also the cousin of actor George Clooney.
Acting Career
Miguel Ferrer started acting in the early 1980s. He appeared in many TV shows. One of his first roles was in Magnum, P.I. in 1981. He played a younger version of his father's character. He also had a small part in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984).
His big break came in 1987 with the action movie RoboCop. He played Bob Morton, a smart executive who created the RoboCop program. He also appeared in movies like Hot Shots! Part Deux (1993) and Traffic (2000). Sometimes, he even played the main character, like in The Harvest.
In the early 1990s, Miguel Ferrer was very busy. He was on three TV shows at the same time! He played a police officer in Broken Badges. He also played FBI agent Albert Rosenfield in Twin Peaks. He later played this role again in the movie Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me.
Ferrer also did a lot of voice acting. He voiced the super-villain "The Weatherman" in a TV pilot. He also voiced the Weather Wizard and Aquaman in Superman: The Animated Series. In 1999, he was nominated for a Grammy Award for his voice work in Disney's The Lion King II read-along. He also appeared in a music video for the band Toto.
From 2001 to 2007, he played Dr. Garret Macy in the TV show Crossing Jordan. He also voiced characters in video games, like the Heretic leader in Halo 2 (2004). He lent his voice to animated shows like Robot Chicken and American Dad!.
Later, he joined the cast of NCIS: Los Angeles as Assistant Director Owen Granger. He was a regular on the show from 2013 until his death. He also appeared in the movie Iron Man 3 (2013) as the Vice President. His last role was again as Albert Rosenfield in the 2017 return of Twin Peaks.
Death
Miguel Ferrer passed away on January 19, 2017, at his home in Santa Monica, California. He was 61 years old. He died from heart failure and complications from throat cancer. He was married to Lori Weintraub and had two sons and two stepsons. Miguel Ferrer is buried in San Juan, Puerto Rico, next to his father.
Legacy and Tributes
Miguel Ferrer left a lasting impact on the entertainment world. A character in Marvel Comics, Spider-Man 2099, whose real name is Miguel O'Hara, was named after Ferrer. This was done by his friend, writer Peter David.
After his death, several TV shows dedicated episodes to him. The show Young Justice: Outsiders dedicated an episode to him. He had voiced the character Vandal Savage in the first two seasons. Another voice actor, David Kaye, took over his role as Savage. The Adventure Time: Distant Lands special "Together Again" was also dedicated to him. He had voiced the character Death in that series.
