Mikaël Kingsbury (born July 24, 1992) is a Canadian freestyle skier. He is known as one of the best moguls skiers ever. Mikaël started his career strong, winning the Rookie of the Year award in 2010. He holds many records in World Cup moguls skiing. He has won 13 World Cup titles in overall moguls. He also has 99 career World Cup wins in moguls. Mikaël is the first man to win both the moguls and dual moguls World Championship events in the same year, which he has done three times! He has won more medals at the Freestyle World Championships than any other male skier. Kingsbury has also won two Olympic silver medals (in 2014 and 2022) and an Olympic gold medal (in 2018).

Mikaël Kingsbury's Skiing Journey

Starting Strong: Early Wins

Mikaël Kingsbury started skiing in the Nor-Am Cup. He had great success in 2010. He won four moguls events and one dual moguls event. He then finished his first World Cup season with two fourth-place finishes. Because of his great start, he was named the 2009–10 FIS World Cup Rookie of the Year.

Kingsbury earned his first World Cup medal in his first full season. This was on December 21, 2010, when he won his first World Cup event. He was only 18 years old, making him the youngest skier to win a FIS Freestyle World Cup event.

He continued his amazing season with another World Cup win. He also earned five more medals. He finished the 2010–11 World Cup season in third place for moguls. During this time, he competed in his first World Championships in 2011. He won a bronze medal in moguls and a silver medal in dual moguls. He was very proud of his achievements at such a young age.

First Big Titles: World Cup and World Championships

Mikaël Kingsbury started the 2011–2012 season with six wins in a row. He became only the second man to win a medal in every FIS freestyle competition in one season. He earned eight gold, four silver, and one bronze medal. This helped him win his first Crystal Globe for moguls. He also won the overall Crystal Globe for all freestyle skiing. He was only 19 years old when he achieved this.

This was his most successful World Cup season so far. He broke or matched several FIS records. He set a record for the most points in a season for an individual discipline. He also became the youngest male mogul skier to win a Crystal Globe. He matched the record for most consecutive World Cup wins with six.

In the 2012–13 season, Mikaël won six more events. He also had one second-place and two third-place finishes. This gave him his second FIS title in moguls. He also won his second overall Crystal Globe.

At the 2013 World Championships, Kingsbury won his first World Championship title in moguls. He had worked very hard for this moment. He said he had been dreaming of this day for a long time. He also won a silver medal in the dual moguls event. This meant he won two medals at the World Championships again.

Becoming a Legend: Surpassing Records

In the 2013–14 season, Mikaël started with three wins. His teammate, Alexandre Bilodeau, then won the next three events. This made the competition very exciting.

At the 2014 Sochi Olympics, Kingsbury won his first Olympic medal, a silver. He was very happy to be on the podium with his teammate. After the Olympics, Kingsbury continued to perform well. He won his 21st career World Cup event. This made him the Canadian skier with the most World Cup wins, passing his childhood hero Jean-Luc Brassard.

Kingsbury won the overall freestyle title by just one point over Bilodeau. He also won the men's moguls title. Both Kingsbury and Bilodeau had amazing seasons.

Reaching New Heights: More Records and Olympic Gold

After Bilodeau retired, many wondered if anyone could challenge Kingsbury. Mikaël showed his strength in the 2014–15 season. He won his 7th straight FIS World Cup moguls event. This broke his own record of six consecutive wins. This win was also his 28th World Cup victory. He tied Edgar Grospiron for the most wins of all time. Kingsbury achieved this at age 22, much faster than Grospiron.

He also won his 4th straight moguls season title. He helped Canada win the moguls Nations Cup. He also won the overall Freestyle Nations Cup. Kingsbury finished the season with both the moguls and overall freestyle Crystal Globes for the fourth year in a row.

During this successful season, Kingsbury won his first World Championship title in dual moguls in 2015. Canada swept the podium in this event, which was a first! He also won a silver medal in the moguls event. This continued his streak of six straight medals at the World Championships.

In the 2015–16 season, Kingsbury set the men's record for World Cup moguls skiing victories. He won his 5th straight moguls and overall Crystal Globes. In the 2016–17 season, he became the first skier to win both single and dual moguls in Deer Valley twice. He also set a new record for most men's World Cup podiums with 58.

In January 2018, Kingsbury set a new record for the most World Cup wins, passing Hannah Kearney's 47. The next month, he won his first Olympic gold medal at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. He was later awarded the Lou Marsh Trophy, given to Canada's top athlete. He was also named The Canadian Press' male athlete of the year. He was the first freestyle skier to win these awards.

Kingsbury missed the start of the 2020-2021 World Cup season due to an injury. He fractured two vertebrae in his back. He returned for the last two World Cup events and won both. He then won both moguls events at the 2021 Freestyle World Championships.

In January 2022, Kingsbury joined Canada's Olympic team for the 2022 Beijing Games. He won another silver medal there. This made him the first male moguls skier to win three Olympic medals.

In 2023, he became the first skier to win the singles moguls world championship four times. He also extended his record for dual moguls world championship gold titles to four. He won both moguls events at the World Championships for the third time in a row.

In the 2024-25 World Cup season, Kingsbury won all three moguls season titles: singles, dual, and overall. He earned 13 medals, including nine golds, across 16 events. This brought his career World Cup wins to 99. He then won his 14th and 15th medals at the 2025 World Championships. This included his 9th gold medal and his 4th straight dual moguls title.
